I haven't made it down there yet. I was at Circleville at "the steps" yesterday for my first outing of the year.
I'll be headed that way soon. I'm watching for reports on here in the coming days/weeks. It Shouldn't be long now.
Shut up and fish!

My neighbor went Thursday. He said they caught 11 whites between 3 fisherman. He also said they walked downstream and fished.
Sounds to me like we're still a few days/weeks away from them coming on up river.
Shut up and fish!

Last Tuesday, my neighbor and his buddies put in at Mona's near the 71 bridge and headed towards Reimer's. He said they took the boat as far as they could go. They found a hole with a few big females. 4 guys 60 fish.
I may have to give it a go this weekend. I guess I'm getting old and lazy, cause the boat is alot of trouble. I used to not think like that. LOL.
I'll post if I go.
Happy Catching!

I never made it out there. But my neighbor is still on the fish from his boat.
I guess there's not much time left to do something. I can't catch anything from the couch or on this website. LOL.

My first trip to Reimer's this year.
As always, it is beautiful out there. There's not much water there this year for fishing the whites. But there are large pools for other family activities. I see that Travis county parks have paved the roads. But they've blocked some of the old ones. You can drive your vehicles down to the water and unload your yaks or canoes at the beach area, but you have to park on the top of the cliff area and walk back down. Yes, there is a brand new paved parking lot up on top now. You can no longer park 1/2 down from the top of the cliffs to the river. And the gate fee is now $10.00 per car. That being said, brings me to my fishing story.
We heard some fishing stories from my neighbor. He'd gone out on last Thursday and killed the whites at Reimer's. He was at my house at 5:30 thursday afternoon telling me about it. He'd limited out in about 1-1/2 hours. The only "negative" thing about his story was how far he walked to get to the fish.
I went Yesterday (Sunday) with brother & buddies in tow. We walked about 1 to 2 miles downstream sinking in the soft sand everytime you stepped. That was the easy part. I took my 5ft cast net and caught river minnows. And then it was on. Once we found the first few, we were on the fish! one after another. My brother, my 11 year old neice, and my buddies were having an awesome time. The river minnows were the bomb! If the fish hit the minnow and missed, another would come along and grab it. I was using a fly rod with clouser flies. I'd only caught a few fish when I thought: "how are we going to get these fish back besides pack-muleing them out?"
We stopped fishing about 4pm and carried those fish all the way back to the new parking lot. Of course, per my nickname, I released mine. But I hauled my buddies other gear so they could haul their fish. I am paying for it today. My legs, arms, back are all sore and stiff. Was it worth it? Yes. Will I do it again? Not without a mule, horse, or ATV. And i don't think they allow mules, horses, or ATV's there. Afterwards, I had my buddies come by the house where I fillet their fish for them. All big 14-16 inch males. not one female. I think we're about to be done until next year. I'm glad I got to go at least once.
All in all, it was a memorable experience. Ouch! it hurts thinking about it! LOL.
Shut up and fish!

Hello. Has anyone been there this year? Any new reports? Thanks. I'm new and trying to see if it's worth the long drive.

The Pedernales river is only a trickle. The drought has dried it up again this year. The scenery will still be beautiful but there is not much water and no white bass this year.

You could try the San Gabriel River river above Lake Granger. There's plenty of water for the White Bass run there.
