I need some Help!! I need to no if $2000 is too much for haveing my lower unit replaced on a 2000 mercury 225 HP engine. This is the first time ive had to do this. Any help is appreciated.

Hes replacing it with OEM mercury if that helps.

Its a complete unit. I put the gears thru the case at Amistad sunday morning.

Just curious to know what you hit at Amistad. I'm headed down there soon and want to make sure I'm aware of any new hazards. Thanks for any info and sorry to hear about your lower unit getting damaged. By the way it does sound like a reasonable price.

I don't have any experience with these replacement lower units, maybe some one else can chine in but for $845.00 might be the way to go.... Dan

I would run just as fast and hard as I could. Do not want anything to do with aftermarket lower units. Heard of too many of them failing after just a few hours run time.

that sounds reasonable I have had 2 in the past year.LOL amd thats in the ballpark of what mine were.

Had one on a Johnson GT150 rebuilt a several years back- Bent the propshaft, ruined the seal, full of water. As i recall it cost me around 1600

+1 Who cares about 3 yr no fault warranty if it leaves you stuck out somewhere like on the Mexican side of Falcon or way up the river at Ray Hubbard.

I didnt hit anything. Just got out of the no wake zone at Box Canyon and just about to hit plane and it broke.Hopefully will get here by Thursday so we can fish The Tean of Champions this weekend.

Gary Purdy sent me the same website. He said he has installed several with no issues. Mine's in the shop right now because of vandalism to the lower unit. My quote was $2800 bucks for a new one...
