These lived less than 15 minutes from my front door, and two bags of panfish assassins at WalMart or Academy are way cheaper than 100 crickets, LOL!

"AFTER 10 PM! Bait: blue/white panfish assassin, on a 32 nd oz UNPAINTED jig head, 6 lb test line, Quantum Micro Ultralight Reel, 5 ft BPS graphite rod"

Lovfldx, even with the smallest jig heads, plastic bodies and ultralight gear, I'll get 20 short strikes for every one hook up with bluegill. Guess I lack the talent you have smile

Today on the way home from work I tried Berkley honey worms though. Not much more expensive that panfish assassins, those things worked amazingly well at the clear water pond I fish (king of small bluegill ponds). I just pretend it is an everyday plastic and not a prepared bait wink .

Tony, ME? TALENT? PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

A lot of people on this forum think I am a no talent bum, LOL!!

These guys were quite aggressive in their strikes, and i had few short hits! They were either fanning nests or protecting them and they can be quite aggressive in those situations!

I have tried the Berkley GULP! for bream, the one that comes in the little jars and looks like live red wigglers, and believe it or not, caught more bass on that stuff than bream, and it's supposed to be a great panfish bait!!!! Go figure!!!

Hey Rudy,

I know what you mean by how aggressive they get gaurding nests. I think you still have to give yourself some credit for using artificials when most like me depend on live bait or the Berkley "scientific" baits to catch bluegill. The one exception for me are warmouths, I can get them to bite roadrunners pretty well.

Last week my son caught 2 3 pound bass off of the berkley worms in a very small creek... figured he was going to be limited to bream.

Rudy, tell me a few things about keeping bream. I found started catching some decent sized ones in a large pond over here by me. They rae hitting just about any small artificial I throw at them, including tiny beetle spins, tube jigs and the beetle spin head/bodies with no spinner arm.

My main question is how do you know if it's safe to eat them? I see these tiny white worm looking thing buried in their fins and tails. Are those normal or a sign that the meat is also infected by this worm/grub looking parasite? The pond looks good. It's fairly clean, has a fountain that keeps the water aerated. Tons of small crappie and some bruiser black bass. I caught an 8 lb'er last year.

Whats the minimum size that you would mess with? The bigger ones put up a great fight and measured about 8" long. They are the darker species of bream with the really round profile as they get bigger. I guess they are males. Very aggressive on the strike, dark top half and bright orange bottom half. Very small mouth, so I know they aren't warmouth/goggle eye.

I read some yesterday on cleaning bream/bluegull. Some people scale them. Some people fillet them. What is your process for cleaning them?

Pure speculation on my part but I would be careful of eating too much of any fish that might come from an "urban" pond. You never know the make up of the water column. Urban ponds could have tons of fertilizer, weed-killer, etc. run-off and other pollutants... especially caused by dumping. The ponds by my house... basically the construction crews tossed everything in them when it was time to clean up the work site. Not good.

(Also, I like to scale & clean and fry/grill whole... very good!)

Dangermon, good call on the fertilizer mention. The last two years there has been a mysterious die-off in this pond of smaller fish...bream, crappie, small cats and bass. Usually happens late Spring to early Summer. It was a mystery until I talked to a guy that fishes the place a lot. He told me the die-off was a result of the area being fertilized. The landscaping is such that everything runs off into the pond. Guess it wouldn't be smart to eat anything out of there.

Great place to fish with kids. Easy access, wide open, easy bank to walk, and lots of fish. Wouldn't mind sharing the location to those on the west side of the metroplex wanting to take a kid fishing. E-mail me if interested. There are a couple of spots that you can literally stand in place for a few hours and never stop catching small crappie and big bluegill.

It's almost buzzbait time! Early Summer last year right at dark the bigger bass were tearing topwaters up.

pittdave had a post on here about a pond at Renner Rd and Synergy Park. It seems to have been removed. I work not far from Renner Rd and wonder where is Synergy Park in relation to US75? I might be able to do some lunch fishing! smile

Another satisfied customer, "Skippy" of the TFF writes:

"Fished there from 9PM 10:15PM. Caught 30 bream ranging from nice sized all the way to enormous. I think a couple were pushing 12. One warmouth had to be close to two pounds. Thanks for the heads up!"

The young man follows directions! Fished jigs; fished at night; fished along the shoreline instead of the middle of the body of water, and loaded up!

Rudy are you fishing those panfish assassins under floats? Just asking for help, I've taken my son out numerous times but here lately we haven't been doing in fishing just wishing, and he's starting to lose his zest.
