I didn't see any reports from Reimer's this year. I figured I'd start a post for 2011.
Just wondering how the water levels are and how whites may do out there this year. There was alot of water there last year, but the year before that was bone dry. I plan to get out there soon. My work has me busy during this freeze. I work for the water dept. in Austin. LOL.
I'd enjoy any fishing stories, or info from there.
Shut up and fish!

I was actually thinking of making a trip out there next week if we get some consistent warm temperatures. I haven't heard of anything being caught at Reimer's yet, but I have read a few reports where they've been catching Whites downstream further.

What's the best place to catch them from the bank? I went last year and couldn't BUY a bite, lol. It was a really nice place though, and I had a great time.
I parked on top of the hill and walked down a narrow, dirt road to the banks and fished from there. Is that a good spot? Other guys on here talk about fishing near the rapids, but I don't know where that is in relation to the bank I was on.

The water is always so clear and then you add the crowds (bankers, waders, boaters, people swimming, etc). The rapids are located just upstream from where that narrow dirt road comes out. If you have waders, the area right below the rapids can be a good area to fish.

"consistent warm temperatures" Still, (IMO) it will be mid March before the (run) will start...And should be a good one this year...Plenty of water for sure... Here's a link for this place, for those not aware...Milton, turned it over to the County several years ago... Thanks, Milton... http://www.co.travis.tx.us/tnr/parks/reimers_ranch.asp

Here's a pic of the beginning of the second rapids upstream from Milton's...Sweet spot, but need a Kayak to get there..only about a 15-20 minute paddle though... I'll try to add some more pics of the 1st rapids soon..Or you may find them on some of my old posts several years ago... =============== Oh, only a 3 month search feature here..lol

This is not the greatest shot, but if you look far upstream (to the left) you'll notice some white water. I believe this is what's considered to be the first rapids. This is just a little walk upstream from where that dirt road comes in. Photo was taken last year. As you can see the deeper water is on the opposite side, so waders are key.

This pic is right upstream from the last pic of(what i call..lol) the 1st rapids...The bank on the other side, is an awesome spot with river minnows..Rarely crowded, very few hang-ups fishing on the bottom...And can get there wading across...(lower downstream...) The big rock on the left side is even a more easy access, no need to get wet...and a nice hole...lol And sorry for the high resolution pics, but only way to show the real beauty of this place...

so upstream means go left from where you launch the kayaks?

Question... Besides needing 2 people to drag a 20 ft seine net, what is an easier way to catch the glass or spot tail minnows from there? Is there a drop net or a certain throw net one can purchase? I have a throw net I use at the coast. it probably won't do much good there for the glass minnows. My neighbor has an umbrella shaped net on the end of a pole. He has alot of luck with that. I use, and have some luck with store bought shinners. But my neighgor just kills the whites at Reimer's with river minnows (spot tails). We killed the whites in 2009 up river Lake Travis with glass minnows.
Shut up and fish!

Wouldn't say it's an easier way, but I use a 7' (1/4" mesh) cast net, for (spot tails) and glass minnows... The smaller minnows still get thru, but the only way I know how to get them if I'm by myself... And can't use a (2person) seine net...
