I just got off the water at 1pm on Rayburn and wind has been on around 10 - 15 MPH. This morning wind was blowing harder which caused some water spray to get in the boat. Front deck and floor iced up. Very slippery. Also every three casts ice was stopping the reels. Dip it in the water then hands are wet then numb. I don't think the wind is such an issue but more the artic chill in the air freezing everything.
Was glad to get off the water.... Ya'll would never survive in the Midwest.....

Maybe we wouldn't survive in the midwest, but we aren't out here to see who is the toughest. This isn't an ironman competition. We are out here to have fun and compete in fishing. Since we are in Texas and are capable of having tournaments early in the year, they do so. This allows them to have the northern tournaments later. Because of that we end up getting to fish in the worst weather of the year. 4 of the last 5 Everstart (formerly American Series) events have been in extreme cold/wind and a lot of people are tired of it. We want to have fun and catch fish in the prime of the year. It's perfectly reasonable to push the tournament to where everyone can enjoy their time on the water.

Are elements not part of the equation? So are we just going to only have tournaments on beautiful blue bird days from now on? Sure no one wants to fish when it's like this but that's just part of the game. If this was a working man type event I could see it, but some of these guys and gals do this for a living. The rest would probably like to or are aspiring to. I think they were more than capable of handling the weather today.

Hey brant.. the way it sounds is that most the guys that are actually fishing it were ok with the decision. Why are you so upset about it? just wondering....

I dont think he is upset. What he is saying is that these guys are at a level where you compete in what ever is thrown your way. I can see cancelling for heavy winds on that big of a lake, but for temps? I have fished several Champs where it was 19 at take off an didnt get above 32 the whole day. But you know that going into it. The guys that were ok with the desicion weren't on fish because I know for a fact, if your on them, you want to fish rain, sleet, or snow.

I understand the argument yall are making though...... At that level they should be able to fish in anything. I get it.

I think if it was just wind, or just temperature, it would be one thing. But if you're getting sprayed on your runs, and every surface of your boat is freezing, that is just too much IMO.
Rollers+frozen deck+40 degree water=someone going in the drink and probably dying.

I fished an event in 2001 on LOZ that we took off it was in the upper teens. It never got above freezing all day and we whacked em.

Brant, why don't you sign up for these tournaments? They aren't able to fill full fields right now because there aren't enough co-anglers.

As discussed in other threads, there are a lot of Ranger boats in this tournament. Safety probably was a concern this morning I couldn't resist My buddy Fred over at DSM will never forgive me.

Go ahead and try, but we tried to register one team for UNT and 1. the website has a bad glitch in it, 2. the guy I talked to said that the tourney was already full, but if something comes up he'll give me a call. I'm thinking "Yeah I'll stay flexible for a 5 hour drive down there." Freaking, what the heck ever.

For the few that really wanted to go fishing today, one thing you have to consider are the coanglers. They do not have any control over where or when the boaters go. They are at complete mercy of the boater and his decisions. Although most boaters are very couteous and want the best safety and success for their coanglers. I have heard some horror stories.
I think the call was the correct one. It was a pain putting all of the boats in only to have to pull them out an hour later. I wish the decision was made sooner, but at least the right decision was made in the end.
