Make you some they are very easy! 1 1/2" PVC about 1' long and a 2' piece of 1/2-3/4" conduit. smash one end of the conduit about 2", drill the other end with 2 holes and line this up with the holes in the PVC. Use stainless hardware and you are set! Works great and are light weight. If you don't have the means I will make them for $8 each + shipping

Carp rods are typically 12' or so, a lot like surf rods. Their rodholders are more suited to freshwater, holding the rods horizontal. A lot of them even come with electric bite alarms.
If I were going for catfish from the bank, that's what I'd go with. You can search some of the carp forums on this site to get sources.
If I'm fishing the surf, I'd go with the sand spike/PVC type.

All are good setups and I have used several. However if you plan on walking any distance let me stress "light weight". BTW I was talking cheap, so you can go full tilt you can get them with alarms, bells and whistles etc..

I like the ones Dontcatchmuch uses but make them a bit shorter. 18 inch of 1/2" rebar 18 inch PVC 2 hose clamps the two in background of my pic are shorter smaller diameter rebar ( 1/4" or 3/8") but they bend when beating them in hard ground and bending over to give handle a cpl cranks with circle hooks before grabbing rod was getting old.... so the two big ones are 1/2" rebar ( dont bend beating in ground) much longer (48") putting reels higher which I like better also put a thru bolt at bottom so reel is not resting the "foot' of the reel against the pvc...gonna make 4 more like them.... the shorter ones I could put in ground about 8"-10" and had even a 6 lb blue pull rod and holder out of the ground....hooked a big ol needle nose gar at Lake Worth that just yanked it out of ground no problem- glad I was standing right behind it... the big rod holders I can beat 12" -18" in the ground and they ain't coming out- I've had trouble getting them back out when i was ready to go...

The diameter of the rebar makes a big difference DCM, IMHO.Found the 1/2 inch is the best so far. I only get mine lodged in about 10-inches in the ground usually and have never had a problem with big blues pulling them out. I have had some bend the rebar but that's about it.

I have had some bend the rebar but that's about it. both times the ground was soft but I don't wanna take no chances- can't afford to lose a combo and the clearanced priced stuff has been hard to find latley....and it's nice to walk(or run) up to reel and give it a cpl cranks waist high instead of bending over...
