I decided to purchase the 17 lb fluorocarbon vanish By berkley, to put on one of my bait cast reels (Abu promax) on a falcon cara 7'. I'm just trying to figure out what to throw with it, and it seems great for finesse baits. It says it's invisible in clear water, but I'm usually fishing stained, has anybody fished it? Like it? Did I waste $11? What other baits go well with it?

Wasted $11.

Go with 15 pound Seaguar when you get sick of the Vanish (and you will).

...I haven't put it on yet for a reason, still have the receipt. I'll wait to see if anyone else will chime in.

I would like to know too.

From what Ive heard, its pointless using flouro on stained to muddy water, as its hard enough for fish to see as it is.

Go ahead and save yourself a lot of heartache and take that stuff off your reel. Get some Berkley 100% fluorocarbon. Well worth the money.

Nitroman, I'll go ahead and be the first, because there will be many more after me. The first thing you need to do is take that line off your reel. You wasted $11, yes. Seguar InvisX, Berkely 100% Fluoro, BPS Fluoro, Sun Line, and several others make good ones. I prefer Seguar.

Berkley Vanish is right up there with one of the worst fishing lines ever made. I can't even believe Berkley is still selling it.

LOL, while I was typing what I thought was gonna be the first response the dog piling started. Told ya, Nitro rolfmao

Its got less stretch than mono and its far more sensitive than mono.

Incorrect. Fluorocarbon is much more sensitive than mono, almost as much so as braid. Sensitivity in muddy water means detecting more bites and landing more fish.

They call it Vanish for a reason.

Your lures will Vanish
Your fish will Vanish
and so on and so on.

Run away, and call it a lesson learned.

Same stuff, just in a differet box. Like Trail Blaizer and Dixie Treat dog food.

Get the best Stren 100% Floro. in 17 lb. for all around fishing. But when it comes to pitching and flipping I use 25# XPS Bass Pro Floro. We use this on our Mexico trips and I have never retied or broke off more than 2 times in one day, with over 50 Bass in the 5lb. class.
My partner lost two tourns. in a row for us using Seaguar 15#. Last time I fished with him; because he refused to go heaver. It cannot take any abraision and land a big fish. As long as you keep checking the line and wasting time retieing any of it is good.

Each person you work with holds some promise to your future success.

Yeah youre right. Sorry, I shouldve been more specific, I meant about its visibility. For sure, the stretch factor is better than mono. I am always fishing in stained to muddy water, so I stick with braid for its zero strech and sensitivity.

I know a guy that will only use Vanish on his cranking gear and loves the stuff.
I personally have no experience with it.
So if you keep it just use it for crankbaits, but back off on your drag a little.
If nothing else if you catch fish, you'll have to learn how to take it slow and easy trying to get them in the boat. And that would be worth $11.00.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.
