I fish the Lower Mountain Fork a couple times a year for trout... Never fished the actual lake. LoneStar was saying something about rough fish in that lake but I can't remember if it was good or bad... LoneStar??? Let us know what you find. I'll be heading up there the end of August to do a little fishin.

If it has trout, it probably has smallmouth bass....Mmmm...Smallmouth bass.
Also if it's deep/cold enough to sustain trout year round, it probably has some HUGE carp in it. Most likely it will be one of those lakes that has a small population of HUGE carp. Like, fish in the 20-40 pound class are probably not too uncommon in the population of carp there. And you've caught some smaller carp, so just imagine how those big boys would fight lol.

Somethingsmellsfishy,
Beavers bend has some really good fishing. I usually fish the river and not the lake though. I have caught a couple stripper and several smallmouth bass along with a couple 20-25inch rainbows. I would recommend using Rostertails and Spinners, have silver and gold cause for some reason it makes a difference. I have been up there 4-5 times this year and got checked by a warden 3 times. Becareful when fishing the river because they have special regulations and barbless hook zones.
Texas Fishing, anything else like it?

Thanks for the reminder on the license guys, I was totally forgetting about that. I'll have to pick up a map of the lake/river too to see if I can find some drop offs. Bound to be an adventure.

You will be able to see 20 feet deep or better on the lake.

I fish up there a couple times a year. One of my buddies lives there. We usually camp near the Holly Creek area. It's a great lake--crappie, sand bass, largemouth bass, catfish and walleye. I've never caught a smallmouth from the lake, but have from the rivers. There's also a few alligators around too--I've seen one that was 10 feet long. If you take a boat, be careful--there's a lot of timber just below the surface of the water. If you are looking for a guide, hook up with Willard Driesel--he knows his stuff.

Thank you for the guide recommendation, raiderred...I haven't decided wether to hire a guide or not...gonna sleep on it and decide in the morning...Could you email me some contact info on Willard Driesel just in case.....also, is there any standing timber or some really obvious structure to fish on that lake...I'm trying to decide on bringing my float tubes, or my 12ft john, or my brother in-laws bassbuster (we both just have trolling motors), or just fishing the river....decisions, decisions.....I'm starting to get like a woman planning a wedding!

br549canepoler; I'll look and find you a number when I get home tonight. If I don't have Willard's number, I can give you my friend's name and if he's not working, maybe you can hook up with him or I'm sure he has it.
There is some standing timber, especially in the coves and there is a LOT just below the water line--you can see it when you pass by. It's a big lake and I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun!
When do you plan on going up?

Raiderred,
Staying in Beaver's Bend State Park July 5-8 got two cabins.....I guess lodging location makes fishing the river more sense, but I don't want to be driving home saying, "Man, I wish I had fished that lake."...from what they tell me, you just can't run out of things to do up there, but come on, how often do you get a chance to fix a lake that is in spots 160+ feet deep, clear as Seagram's Gin, and much more diverse in species than the 30 acre farm ponds I mainly fish...Your buddy has got a hot burger, brat, steak or something, and a cold beverage and a big TFF hello waiting for him, if he wants to come by sometime....man, I just want some pictures of me and some fishies with some scenic backdrops, and some big old smiles....
