There are some serious talks of making the trophy zone of the guadalupe a "true" catch and release zone. This means that the fish killing bait fishermen will FINALLY be outlawed in this trout fishery. Its about time for this forward thinking to come!!!

Few problems with implementing that...Unlike many other trout fisheries around the US, both natural and manmade like the guad, there are a LOT of other fish to fish for in this stretch of the guad. I've caught trout, bass, bluegill, catfish, gar (not fun on a tube), and stripers while "bass" fishing there. Also that trout bait makes good (albeit not ideal) sunfish bait, and trout will eat bait used for sunfishing in general. Good luck implementing a single hook only catch and release (ideal regulation in the pure sportsman's eyes) or no artificial bait restriction when there's so much else to fish for. The guad is a great resource with or without the trout, and I personally would be more supportive to the state reestablishing the guadalupe bass in this stretch than supporting a fragile trout fishery.

That is what they did with the San Juan in NM, a true quality water now.

I totally agree. Why not stock a native fish that will survive throughout the year.

AggieGolfer and Hendo are right on.
Why change fishery regulations for a non-native species that has trouble surviving in Texas? Save the water for drinking. It just doesn't make any sense.
