Hit up Granger solo this morning, fished the first hour in the rain. Moved around a few times and finally found some hungry fish. I caught 15 blues and lost a pretty good one right at the boat prob. about 10 to 12 lbs. Sad thing is I ran out of fresh shad while they were still biting, I had some frozen carp and shad from a previous trip, but they wouldn't touch it. Granger lake is only a half foot low now, I was able to get into some different places on the lake with the raised water level. Ended up keeping 12 blues to take home.

Nice trip, not too bad to do solo once in a while, gives your mind time to think, and you got some good fish to boot. Way to go Jared

Nice job! I was trying to decide Belton or Granger today. Ended up at Belton. Found lots of shad quick but no fish.

Hey Jared, Thanks for the great pics! Where are you finding the shad on Granger? I've been off the board for a few months. Glad to be back on here! Took a couple of trips to Granger in January and drove around the whole lake a couple of times, checked out the parks and such. I am wanting to start fishing there so I thought a couple recon trips would be good .... Now it's time to do some fishin! Any info would be a help....

Live2Fish, I haven't tried for shad for quite a while on Granger. I had some shad I caught the day before on Belton. I usually go to Belton every Friday evening and catch bait and put them on ice so I'll have fresh shad for the weekend.
The last few times I've been on Granger, I marked a bunch of bait in the river channel where the San Gabriel opens up into the lake, and also in front of the swim beach area at Taylor Park, you might try there. In the spring last year I was catching them in the mouths of the two coves to the west of Friendship Park

Thanks a lot Jared. Appreciate the help. Once we get through this cold spell, I'll be heading out there. They say we got snow coming for Thur and Fri and again on Mon and Tue. Supposed to be down around the single digits next couple of nights. I've never catfished in below freezing or snow weather before. If I thought they would bite, I'd probably give it a try even with the snow. But I suspect they don't like the cold anymore than we do...

I've done great in freezing weather on Granger. Just watch the winds. Small lake, no place to hide from mother nature's winds, unless you head up the river channel. Then, better know the lake to get back to the boat ramp. On finding shad, the northside heats up first, that's where you find the shad, the warmer water. Also, watch the commarants, they will show you the coves the shad are in. Best bait right now, is a good quality stinkbait. They feed first by smell in cold weather, then by sight. They are moving slow to the cold, that stinkbait don't move, live shad, does. Fresh dead shad, gives off the same scent as live shad. Don't get me wrong, you will catch on shad, but you will catch more on stinkbait right now. Caught a 22 lber on Sure Shot not long ago. I know, lake record, but records don't mean nothing to me.

Sounds Good Big Zee! If the wind lays down, I may give it a try on Friday. I've heard a lot of folks say that Granger is no place to be when the wind blows or a storm comes up. I think I'll heed the advise and stay home if it's too windy.
I've got a bucket of Big Marv's Stink Bait. I think that ought to do the job.
Sure do appreciate all the information. Thanks!

Be careful at the boat ramp!!! We've had about 60 hours below freezing with a strong north wind. If you do go, in the futrue, let me know how Big Marv's do. Be careful if you go.
