Man...I just discovered the Glass Shad Rap made by Rapala. It rattles, it suspends, it swims deep and it shines! The WRC fish can't resist it! Anyone else like using the Shad Rap? What is your favorite Rapala lure?

Peace.

I like them, but find they are a pain to use from the bank.

As they are being retrieved to their proper depth, the bank is rising to them instead of falling away as would be the case casting from a boat to the shore.

But they have been good producers for me just not from the bank.

Haven't tried the Glass Shad Rap but the old original floating minnow in the 5/16oz(I think-it's the one about 3 inches long)silver/black back is one of my absolute favorite lures.
Throw it out, let it sit, twitch it or give is short jerk and hang on! Rapalas have caught a lot of fish.

I really like any of thier lures in the Blue Gill pattern. If you took the hooks off, you could not tell it wasn't a real gill!

My big problem is that I have not been able to find these in "local" stores...and it gets pricey ordering these online, etc.

You are right about depth; however, I have been having trouble getting the Husky Jerk deep enough. No problem with the Shad Rap. I feel the same way as onebigfish does when cost is considered. Is there a good "generic" or is has Rapala cornered the market? The quality is sure good.

Peace.

Nothing like a good ol' Rapala......I like the orange myself. I have caught a few bass from the shore this way.
They are kinda pricy though. I have used a few imitations. Nothing beats the real thing !

Keep 'dem lines tight and enjoy the fight....!

yozuri, matzuo or bps makes good imitations

I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

Try Bass Pro Shop in Grapevine. Little bit of a drive from McKinney....but they have them.

The X-raps are pretty good too. Don't run as deep as the Shadraps....but I think they run a little deeper than the Huskyjerks...and I like the action better. They are making two sizes of these. I just got a few of the smaller ones but haven't really given them a good test yet.

Rapala has also come out with a new flat sided crankbait. It's the DTF-7. Flat sided, coffin-billed and has a rattle inside, even though it is a balsa bait. Some really good colors too.....I like the hot mustard and bleeding Tenn shad. These baits look like they go to their stated depth...and they have a VERY slow rise...almost a suspend....

Thanks for the insight and suggestion badkarma.

I picked up an X-rap last night...the size the fish seem to prefer is usually an "8". Although, the GSR-4 and GSR-6 (great action) are the sizes I am having great luck with at WRC. Jerking these lures seems to envoke an irresistable feeding response in the fish (Black Bass, White Bass, Crappie and Shad). Amazing! Does Bass Pro Shops carry the DTF you are speaking of?

Peace.

"and Shad"

You catching shad w/ a crankbait? I've caught a 3 inch sandy off of a matzuo ultralight crankbait but have never seen anyone catch a shad that way.

Yeah...BPS has them...in fact, that's the ONLY place I've seen them so far. And even there they sell out pretty quick. I had to make two trips over there to get the colors I wanted. So you might want to call first.

Cabellas has them advertised on their website, but they didn't have them out when I looked last week.
