Hey, Pezz and Sam. Vetro, too. I re-rigged all my limb lines last fall with new hooks, and then made some new ones. I aint setting out anything tho until March. I'm a sissy. Prefer on the couch under several blankets watching the Steelers beating the Jets. Miss you guys, tho. Pezz, let's meet Sam at one of the in-town "lakes" lakes, sometime, and show him how to fish. I'll have on about 3 layers on longjohns. Jerry

Hybrids will start their spawn at waurika in a couple weeks!
I LOVE this time of year!
pezz, better look up your fish facts, dont think any hybrid is going to spawn any time in the near future. Hybrid still spawn. You should have looked it up yourself before posting.

yea, 15 yrs of raising striped, and hybrid bass i think i might know what i am talking about. any way i did not post to start a - argument, sorry if i came across that way. The research says they spawn. Maybe you just didn't create the "mood" Here's a limk http://aqua.ucdavis.edu/DatabaseRoot/pdf/300FS.PDFStraight from the article... Hybrid striped bass, unlike some other hybrids, is fertile. It is oviparous (egg-laying) like the parental species and produces eggs and sperm in the spring when temperatures are 15 to 20 C. Some males mature at the age of 1 year (approximately 250 mm long and 500 grams), and all are mature at 2 years of age. A few females are mature at 2 years of age, but all are mature at 3 years. Females produce an average of 160,000 eggs per pound of body weight and spawn once a year. Males may spawn many times over the spawning season. Natural spawning of hybrids has been verified in a few instances. They may participate in spawning runs with striped bass or possibly white bass. There are also confirmed cases of reproduction in reservoirs that contain only hybrid striped bass. Hybrid striped bass produce sperm and eggs during the spring when water temperature is between 55 to 70 F. Temperatures of 65 to 68 F are ideal for spawning hybrids and the parental species. Spawning occurs from mid-March through May depending on location. Spawning season in any one location usually lasts 4 to 5 weeks. Hybrids have been observed participating in spawning acts in areas that contain clear shallow rocky shoals that are 1 to 3 feet deep. Females come to the surface during the spawning act and several males accompany her. The males appear to bump and butt the female which may stimulate egg release. Released eggs are immediately fertilized by the males. But this is all besides the point. WHAT COLOR IS HOT FOR THE CRAPPIE!!!!!!!! Please! Charlie, good to see you back on the thread. I look forward to meeting more of you guys this year. Josh

hybrid striped bass, male and female are not generaly fertile. yes some do attempt to spawn, most of the time it is in a river, or behind a spillway with running water, not in a small lake, not saying it does not happen, it is just highly unlikely. when they do attempt to spawn it is in april or may most likely in that area, not the first week in february. If it is happening i would like to see it, i will even take my boat and pezz.

"Stripers migrate into rivers (like salmon) to spawn. Their eggs are buoyant so they can tumble down the river until they hatch. This keeps them oxygenated until they hatch.
White Bass are similar but their eggs are adhesive and not buoyant. They attach to vegetation or rocks in rivers or windswept areas and the flow keeps them oxygenated until hatching.
The hybrids eggs are not buoyant enough to tumble in the current like a striper, and are not adhesive enough to properly attach to rocks or vegetation. They sink to the bottom and become covered in sediment. This results in rapid suffocation. "
You don't need a boat, that's the best part, they go into shallows to spawn. If you have an Okie license, some waders, a rod and reel that can handle them, turn right into the Day-Use area near the marina and watch the Vietnamese, Chinese, Cambodeans, or whatever... do their thing.
And just as in crappie fishing they WILL spank that a$$.
I'll let you all know when they start.

I forgot... at third bridge most were using black and chartreuse jigs.
at academy, some of the crappie stuff is in the room where the kayaks are. not much though. Academy is a godsend for us but still amazingly annoying. No slip bobbers! No big jigheads! ahhh...

got my okie lic, and will be waiting for your call. they may spank my a$$ the first time there but not the second. If hybrids are fertile, dont you think tpwd would be using hybrids to make hybrids, and not striped bass females and white bass males. think about it. you have a pm

Jerry, if they stocked Plum today were on! They take a few days to start biting so if the golden algae is under control we can all meet on a warm afternoon. I'll bring the bait. You can bring your snuggie if you want to feel more at home, ha ha.
