Im new to the area, and usually this time of year I would be on the ice fishing for walleye, and crappie. I am curious about what types of baits to be focusing on this time of year. If you had 3 baits to have on deck, what would they be? I appreciate any input. Thanks

Yea Bass fishing. I am used to fishing northern waters in Indiana, and we never really got on open water until early march or later. I appreciate the input. Thanks. I love the year round fishing down here just trying to make it more successful. Thanks

The lakes in south and west Texas (Amistad, Falcon, and Choke) to me are more dependent on water temps rather than month. It seems like once the surface temp gets below 60 degrees (which sometimes doesn't happen at all on Falcon) the fish seem to get slugish and in more of a winter pattern. That said, last year Falcon fish seemed to be still pretty agressive below 60.
It's not a hard and fast rule but holds true most of the time. I don't fish much north of Choke but I imagine its similar up north too.
Bottom line is above 60 fish whatever you like (t-rig/c-rig big plastics, cranks, jigs, etc.). Below 60 downsize and slowdown.

Jig, lipless crank bait, (suspending jerk bait) if the water is below 50 degrees.
Jig, lipless crank bait, chatter bait, or square bill if the water is above 50 degrees.

Black and Blue Jig (Use pork. Plastic trailers get hard in cold water) Red lipless crank finesse type bait (drop shot or shaky head)

Jig, lipless crank bait, chatter bait, or square bill if the water is above 50 degrees. Only thing I would add is use a BIG pork trailer like and Uncle Josh Big Daddy #1 on your jig if the water is below 50. Plastic if above,
