Thanks for the encouragement, roger t. I was beginning to question my own sanity out there Sunday morning! Next time freelining and bottom bouncing will happen.
Unclejess, thanks for your input, too.

Did Calaveras again this AM (Wed) Lots of bait, but the fishing was slow. Hadn't caught anything between 6:30 and 8:00, then the cats started biting (some). Anyhow, for the next hour I boated 9 channels and blues, all between 1 lb and 5 lb. Wouldn't touch anything but cut tilapia. Didn't catch a thing freelining. Quit at about 10:30..too hot! Roger

Is it still happening out @ Calaveras I'm hoping to boat something this morning and not just bait but, I better "hit the hay" if I intend on doing so in about 3 hrs. Let me know anyone good or bad news. Thanks fish on!

Try putting some shad or cut tilapia on a 1/0 kahle hook and a split shot, and tossing it under some shaded area near the bank. That generally produces cats.

I managed to get out of bed before daylight this AM and gave my old standbye at Calaveras a try. Fishing was slow, but managed to catch a 6 lb striper freelining with tilapia and 7 cats. All the cats were between 3 and 4 lbs bottom bouncing cut tilapia. Anyone else fishing Cal lately ? Quit at 10 AM, just to darn hot ! Roger

I love to drift fish also. Sounds like yall like a light wind so you dont go very fast. Something you can try is cabelas has very large drift socks . I bought the 4XL and it slowed my 18 foot boat down a lot in the high windy days. They are high i think I paid almost 60 dollars but in my opinion it was a very good purchase.
