Looks like it will be warming up to 55*. That will be better then staying in the 30's.

Coffee is usually ready for the setup crew and the fly tyer's by about 8:00. Most of the fly tyer's will start arriving between 8:00 and 8:45 to get ready before the event offically opens at 9:00. Setting up the facilities doesn't take too long, it is mostly tables, chairs, and extension cords.

Now, the TFO crew doesn't usually arrive until about 8:59 and they're ready to go by 9:00, and they pack up just as quick. (I think they may have done this a time or two before. smile )

For the people planning to attend, like every other tying event I've ever been to, you will see more people tying and more flies tied in the morning than you will after lunch.

I'm planning on doing a bunch of different stuff with jig hooks and circle jig hooks as well as some deer hair and carp flies. I'm bringing almost half of my material arsenal and I'll have my Diablo kayak if anyone wants to see it or get in it and paddle it.

Looking forward to seeing that Diablo Austin. It had better be decidedly stable for me to risk immersion in Texoma in January! laugh
I have decided that my tie will be Cat's Whiskers. No reason other than the random decision-maker app that runs in my mind kicked that out when I entered "select random pattern". Well, mostly.

We will setup all the tables, chairs, electric, etc. this evening. Then we'll go to Windy's Catfish (across the dam) for dinner. After dinner several of us will be bunking in the Rec Hall and tying flies and telling lies most of the night. I will be up early and have the coffee on. The breakfast casseroles for the tiers will arrive around 7:30 AM.

Anyone who wishes to come this evening and have dinner and/or bunk in is welcome.

Make sure you tell them at the gate that you are participating in the event so they don't charge you admission.

My cell phone is two one four four five seven thirty four zero seven if'n you have any other questions.

(I'll be there at 2 in the morning if I know you're coming! Oops wrong commercial!!!) scared

Looking forward to a great event!!!

I'm about to head that way. It's 27 degrees here at Ray Roberts. The Kayak is staying in the shed until it gets about freezing. smile

I just got back from the event. I had a great time and met some very nice people. I didn't know if I wanted to be outside getting help with my fly casting. Or if it was time better spent inside watching all the great fly tying going on. I had a member(Rex) from the Red River flyfishers spend some time with me and show me a bunch of stuff to work on with my casting. He was a great guy and very unselfish with his time.
I also had another member (Jeff) show me some tips of how to tie flies. If that wasn't enough, after he found I was interested in bass fishing and salt water fishing, he took and showed me some awesome TFO rods that were out there to play with. Yea, I will soon be purchasing a TFO rod very soon. Thanks for all the help RRFF and TFO. I wish I would have went to one of these along time ago.

Glad you got to go. I caught a bug so I didn't get to go, although I planned to. I have been sick most of the time since right after Christmas. I sure do love watching other tyers in action. I'd rather do that then tye at one of those events. I had planned to go to the Sowbug this year, but with my finances, it looks like I won't be able to go this year, AGAIN. I was going to go last year, but I caught the flu.

Great event! Thanks to all who put it on!

My kayak was a big hit, I showed it off 11 individual times to groups of people. It got to be a really nice day but it was WINDY! I fell in love with that TFO Axiom 7wt and messed around with a 14 foot spey rod and the big mini magnum (300-400grain one) for a while. I probably casted about 10 or 15 different rods.

Also, my circle hooks seemed like a hit! I gave a bunch away and tied on them for a few hours. Here's a link to those who wanted it.
http://www.barlowstackle.com/Mustad-39994D-Jig-Hook-P424C41.aspx\

I also enjoyed meeting/visiting with Jerry, Russell, The other Jerry, Les, George, Rex, Taylor, Robin, Scott, David, Jim, and everyone else (the list is just too long to list). It was a great event and I got some major striper box restocking done with all the clousers and cyperts minnows I tied along with a bunch of carp flies.

Oh, Jerry. Thanks for motivating me to go out and fling flies next to the boat ramp, I hooked a 2 or 3lb smallie on the 3rd cast that shook off, but it felt good to say I actually hooked a fish. I'm planning on maybe hitting the Ray Roberts dam Tomorrow morning/afternoon if I can.

I'm glad to hear that everyone had a good time (I know I did). The event went very well. We had 25 tyers this year which I believe is a first. Rex, Taylor, and Brandon (from TFO) did lots of casting instruction thanks to the awesome weather. Austin's yak was a big hit!!!

We (RRFF) are blessed to have such an awesome relationship with TFO. They had every fly rod in their current line available and you could stick a reel on them and fling them to your hearts content. They also handed out lots of free hats, visors, and stickers.

I have to throw out a huge THANKS to all the members of the RRFF for all their hard work in preparing and working this event. I am very proud to be the leader of such a great group of folks.

Folks, if you're not a part of a club you're missing out.
Club membership is more than just paying dues and going to meetings. It's fishing together, tying flies together, teaching/learning, fellowship, and it becomes family.
I highly recommend hooking up with your local club. All the "stuff" that folks have mentioned they liked about this event happens every week/month in the local clubs.

Not only do we, as club members, benefit from it but our local fisheries do also. Most of our clubs are FFF affiliates which means that we have a large voice when it comes to things that might favorably or adversely effect out fisheries.

So, please join and support your local club. You'll be glad you did.

IMO, Texoma on the Fly rapidly becoming, if not already, the event in North Texas. Twice a year, even better!

I got to meet some new folks, put some faces to some usernames and get reacquainted with some old friends.

I also gained a simple yet extremely valuable piece of inof regarding deer hair. Thanks Brandon.

Austin - if it had been summer I'd have taken you up on that Diablo test paddle. But I'm too big of a pollo to try that in January given my nautical history. smile
