Anyone know what kind of bird this is? The wife took a picture of it in the backyard. Pretty cool looking. ![](http://i707.photobucket.com/albums/ww80/boomboombucket/12-27-10_005.jpg)

Thanks. Very awesome bird. Just sat there for the longest time, and then took off and plucked a lizard off the lawn.

That is the rare mottled fence rooster. They like to roost on fences usually in close proximity to palm trees, but sometimes will sit on clothes lines too.

The Air Force lost their mascot at the Indepedence Bowl. Maybe there is a reward.

Its a juvenile Sharp Shinned hawk. They are very common throughout Texas.

There are two possible species, broad-winged or red shouldered hawk. It is too small to be a red-tailed hawk, the back is too mottled to likely be a sharp-chinned hawk and doesn't look anything like a falcon. Dorsal views alone make IDs difficult. These two are my best guesses.
