+1 on when its frozen over. Last time I fished a week or so back here in Ky, my reel handle wouldnt turn for all the ice in it. Admittedly, bass fishing in water below 40 degrees is not for everybody, it will take several trips to yeild any action, but its nice when you hit the right spot at the right time, it can be one big one after another.
Ive never had the problems you mentioned though, probably just line. Ive spent many days on the water, from sunrise to sunset when the air temp never got out of the teens. There are better things to do with your time, but I dont have anything better to do...

The plastic lures several times would explode when they hit the rocks That will happen no matter what the temps are If you hit rocks out of the water

Ken Addington and I have fished Monticello when you had to wipe the snow off of the seats to sit down and this was at night.

I have beat up some baits on the rocks and have been really surprised that I had not broken some baits on rocks before when hitting rocks but with the cold weather and a miss cast, your SOL if you hit a rock.

Its to cold to fish when your reels stop working, till then just keep dipping your rods in the water to get the ice out of the line guides and keep fishing!

Just read a article, I dont remember if it was BASS or FLW but it interviewed some pros on how the fishing is when its snowing and they all said it was good.
I know we were catching them on falcon last year when we had to poke the ice on of our guides just about every cast.

Being a Yankee by birth, it is still unbelievable to me fishing in December in shorts. Was out Friday and got a bit of a sun burn on the tops of my feet! Got to love South Texas!

Sounds like you need to change your line and learn how to cast. 1+ I was thinking the same thing Jack. The only time it is too cold is when the lake is frozen over.

I may have been the line, but it was just changed out after my summer fishing before I left for school, so it has not been touched since then. I believe it was spiderwire XXX mono, has anyone else had a problem with this line?

We went out on Ray Hubbard yesterday water temp 47, air temp 31, winds 5-7 from the north. The plastic lures several times would explode when they hit the rocks and fishing line was very brittle. We got skunked. After loose too much gear, we just played with the side imaging and burned out the old fuel for winterizing. When it overcomes the fire in your soul. Depends on the angler.

I've had lots of success in the winter time. Don't catch as much fish but I usually catch quality fish every time.

I have snapped lines while trying to set the hook and it was pretty much brand new line... I just figured it was me or something haha
