I have both. I would have Navionics without Insight, but I would not have Insight without Navionics. If you can afford both that is best. I'm using an 08 Navionics chip, thought I would wait and get new when they update.

Navionics is far better, but It's nice to have both because I've found my Nav chip wont show topography in stumpy areas where the Insight will.

I'd suggest getting both, but if you have to choose one or the other, get Navionics

Can they be overlayed-?? If this sounds like a crazy question,,it is because I'm just trying to learn about all these GPS things.

On the map screen hit menu then menu again, highlight either Lowrance or Navionics and hit enter. Takes 5 seconds.

So which Navionics chip . . . the "regular" or the Platinum? Cabela's has the "regular" on sale for $99.99 right now while the Platinum if $199.99.

I have an HDS-8 and am wondering if the Platinum is worth the extra bucks.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice!

Have an 8 on the console and a 5 on the bow both with insight, also have navionics. Get both if you can afford it, insight does show topo and stumps where as navionics doesn't. Both have their use's, real easy to swap from one to the other.

Didn't have time yo read everything so forgive any repeats. The Lowrance maps that are useful, at least to me, is the basemap -- not Insight. The 3d looks cool but has little practical use. What the basemap has over Navionics is better structure ID like roads, dams, foundations, etc. Navionics is MUCH better on cotours. Save your money on Insight and toggle between Navionics and Basemap.

Get it with the insight. Buy the chip and use them both. the insight will show creek channels on some lakes that the chip doesnt. you will use the chip most of the time but some time the insight comes in handy.I am glad that i went ahead and got the insight.
