Today my father and I were blessed to receive another invitation to fish a private lake on a ranch in East Texas. I was somewhat skeptical as we drove out, as it was considerably cooler than it was yesterday. Turns out, it was a perfect Fall (winter?) day for fishing. We got to the lake around 10:30-11am. I of course immediately unpacked a rod with a white roostertail tied on and started casting around the dock. My first five casts landed two SLAB crappie and two FAT bass! It was definitely on!!

We pretty quickly figured out that the crappie were hanging around the dock and in the next hour we jigged up 24 monster slabs!

After a while we rigged up the trolling motor and the property owner and I headed out to look for bass. I didn't take long to find them. All bass were caught on white roostertails in water no deeper than 6 feet.

Our gracious host with a nice bass!

too many pics, will continue...

too many pics for one post...

I stayed out on the water while the rest of the gang got lunch. I'm glad I did! Don't know the weight, and it actually looked a little skinny, but it was one heck of a nice fish, among many nice fish.

A few more of the fish caught while others were at lunch...

too many pics again, will continue...

We left them biting mid-afternoon. Did not use the counter, but would guess that I caught about 25 bass. I was not counting other peoples fish, but we well all caught plenty!

My pop and I with 24 monster crappie, smallest was 1lb 10oz, couple even 2lb fish, but most were carbon copies right at 1lb 14oz. every last one of them had the racing stripe on top.

A few more crappie pics from when I got home.

The End!

Thanks again to our host! We had a blast!

Great Pictures. Access to private waters is a wonderful gift. Those are some really nice crappie, must be managed well.

That is one healthy eco-system in that pond... To have that many quality sized fish, is very impressive. How big is the pond? Depth etc?

When taking a kid fishing, it is a privilege to share in his or her life. Make it the best experience you can by slowing it down and taking the time to teach. The littlest things will stick for life.
