Um well back to the reports

Dec. 18th

My first attempt at fly fishing went very well! I like to mention I'm a very accomplished angler up there, it's not so much me as it is more a tribute to the fishery. With my spinning gear days with 20+ are the norm up there so I was a more than a little worried about my catch rate decreasing or disappearing. However I did fairly well, I caught 14 in total with 3 being over 16 inches. The most effective fly was a white WB. There is a ton of fish in the water right guys, get up there and catch some!

Thanks for the report and it almost seems offtopic after all the drama.

Totally agree. Well put Johnny Angler. Nice post.

Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, he'll be gone every weekend.

I think the LMF is horrible . . . everyone should stay away . . . go fish the White or Norfork . . . or better yet, drive to Bloomfield and fish the Juan . . . or fly up and fish in Alaska . . . just stay away from the LMF . . .

more fish for me.

Let me preface this by saying Carey and I are friends, so you can take what I say with that in mind.

I have fished with him twice... once on Rowlett Creek, and also on Lake Ray Hubbard from toons. We fished together, not as guide and client, so I could watch Carey in action.

Although the joints in my hands don't work so well anymore, and a bum shoulder limits what I can do, Carey still put me on dozens of fish each time... while he proceeded to kick my arse but good. Some great memories.

Next, you should know that I have been fishing for over 50 years, from the Keys to the Great NW, but primarily in the Rockies... Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Utah, and Idaho to be specific. I will guarantee you I have had many many days of landing 50+ slimers. When they are "on", that number isn't really that tough to hit, if you are willing to cover ground, and continually switch tactics when things slow. Presentation, accurate casting, and the ability to choose the right depth and speed are crucial.

Finally, Carey, I wouldn't worry too much about what a couple of guys who have posted less than 50 times on TFF, while being members for quite some time have to say. They are hardly concerned about the well being of this forum or its members. They are classic holier than thou flyboys who enjoy feeling superior to those who don't have the ability to travel the world chasing trophies or wear a grand worth of fly apparel.

Scott's the only one who surprises me... Seemed like an OK guy the one time I met him. Chucks a flyrod real well, but is also damn good at chasing shad for his guide business... wink

Frankly I'd put you, Cordell, and Joni up against any of these guys, on any water they chose. (In case anybody wonders, Cordell could be Ted Nugent's twin, and guides the flats near Miami out of a kayak for bones, permit and such, the canals for peacock bass, and backwater for snook and tarpon. Joni is a bass player and lead singer, who sounds like Pat Benatar, at night and guides during open water in Utah and Idaho.)

Go get 'em, Carey, and keep the good stuff coming!

Carey read my pm and chose not to reply.
RR and others mod did the same.

As Carey says, "you're silence is an admission of guilt"

I won't publish my "questions".

And to let everyone know...

I've sent hundreds of people to the LMF with flies and gear over the years. I've fished up there many times. I've raised money to support the river. I have fished with guides and never had to explain how a reel goes on properly, had the guide take a pic of me with a fish, then he takes a pic of the same fish, then post the pics repeatedly. The guides I have used support there fishery and fish it year around, not just when the stocking truck comes around.

Carey, you may be a great fisherman, but to claim youreslf a fly guide is dishonest to the people that read this board. The people that call you out (and there have been plenty thru the years) are flyfisherman to their core and love this sport. I've fished with several and your name inevitably comes up. The same stories are told and people shake their heads.

I'm done with this.
