Hey guys I'm new to the area... I work in law enforcement and work for Guadalupe county.. I'm lookin for a few hot spots I can take my 3yr old to catch some fish. I really want her to get a bass or a carp.. Any ideas?

Hey "tedmonds20" fishing with a 3 year old can be tough going. You may want to try putting her on some sunfish. Just about anywhere along the Guadalupe River is good. Dunlap, Mcqueeney, and Placid just to name a few. The Cibolo Creek at the Crescent Bend Nature Park is also a very good place. She may just get a bass while fishing for the sunnies.

If ya get a chance, try Lake Wood(H-5). Got a lot of panfish and 10"-16" bass. Should occupy the kid for a couple of hours. My 2 can't wait to go back. If you can get access to Lake Gonzales(H-4), it's got great fishing if there's some flow. Hope this helps. Let us know how ya did.

I would be willing to check it out, let me know about what time you would go there. Remember with the weather around here it is hit or miss with the bass. Saturday I hit 5 on Cibolo creek behind the park but Sunday only two.

Its hard to tell with the mouth like that, but I would guess a spotted bass? The scales on the belly sort of look like rows. Here is a link that may help. Black Bass ID

I'm sold!! Gonna go up there (I live NW SA) tomorrow morning to see what all the fuss is about. I did look on GoogleMaps and saw the creek running on the side of 1518; it also had some breaks in it? Gonna try parking at the park and see what happens. Has anyone pulled any catchfish from there also?

My daughter pulled an 18" channel out of the pool right below the park. It was caught on cut bluegill. The water level is down some, but still very fishable.

Jgutierrez if you catch anything let me know what you caught and which lure or bait that you used.

Overfished I lost a top water lure it is a chuck woolery motochug lure signature seris. I had a bass hit it and all the sudden it was gone, I think I may have had a bad knot.

I forgot to mention when I was down there on 12 Dec as I was leaving the park there was a cop that pulled up and told me that the area was private property. He didn't say if anyone complained about people fishing down there but he was just letting me know.

As Always...skunked...the story of my life. Got there about 9ish to the park, went down (literally..slid on some thick covered leaves and ran into a tree) Re-grouped myself and fished for bass and cats. Big Marvs for cats, crank baits powerworms, (c-rigged and tx) with no luck. Did see a mess of carp gathered at a shallow pool..about 5 of them.

I havent had much luck in the pools directly below the park the last couple of weeks. I have been going left and right of that pool and thats where I have been catching a few. The bass have difinately slowed down from November. Im sure around mid March it will be hot again.
