Before ethanol, blenders of gasoline used methyl-tert-butyl ether to increase octane. This compound doesn't dissolve and makes its way into drinking systems (i.e. Texas lakes). It is much better to have amounts of ethanol in drinking watersheds than MTBE.

Saying ethanol free gas won't work. What are we going to.....what will replace ethanol since we are trying to remove MTBE's from gasoline.

Anyone have a real alternative better than ethanol?

Yes, set a deadline for switchover to natural gas and electric. T Boone has the plan...and keep gas around for boats etc.

It's not really the ethanol persay. It's how we obtain it. Corn is just extremely inefficient. Sugar is a much better way to produce ethanol. Unfortunately that gets into embargo's and subsidies. Good ol govt....

our boat motors won't run very good on biodiesel, natural gas, or electric power either.
and if THAT is the solution, then how many stations are going to be selling Efree or E10 gas at that point? What you think it would cost per gallon? cry

point being we need to stay somewhat focused in our efforts to fight this and make the issue about keeping Efree or atleast E10gas the primary fuel used. If law/regulations pass that leads to stations jumping on E15 like happened with E10 then we will all be screwed.

And as long as we have to use etoh, since there is a LOT more corn grown in the USA than sugar i am happy they are using it instead of sending the $ elsewhere like everything else we use. Just my $.02

First, give thanks to God.

Signed, as if they will listen anyway. The government does what ever it wants. Regardless of what the people of our country say. Good luck though!!!
