We didn't use a fly as I was just learning how to cast and the wind was up, so I couldn't have thrown it if my life depended on it. There was a guy that was using a fly and was throwing an egg pattern, looked like a piece of corn on there.

Was really nice up there, we went twice and there were only 3 or 4 people in the whole park that were fishing. And if you look at the pics there were TONS of trout all up and down from the falls to the first low water crossing. Not sure if there were any down below that but with all of the ones up stream from there figured why bother.

My wife also caught about a 10-12 inch small mouth while we were there also.

Beaver's Bend is a year round trout fishery. Turner Falls and the Blue River stock trout in the winter only.

Son is 15 now, Beavers Bend for more of a challenge, and Turner Falls to put fish in the freezer.

My son did best with egg patterns, copper johns, and caught larger ones on dry flies. It is a great place to go when learning.

that is awesome. so not to hyjack, but when the time comes for trout to be released into the ponds around the house, what patterns are working for fly fishing for them?

I am a part time custom rod builder, Rods By Chris. I specialize in fly rods, but just down right enjoy building custom fishing rods. I see each as a piece of art.

Never had any luck at all on the fly at the local ponds, or on my ultrlight gear either. That was why we went to turner, not to far and had a blast.

I had luck with buggers, pheasant tails, theo's bombers(millersflyshop), blue north fork nymphs, and hares ears. Really anything simple under size 10 or 12 works pretty well. At the falls I drift them under an indicator but in ponds that really isn't necessary. Retrieve slowly and keep it off the bottom and you're set. Tapered leaders aren't really necessary, I just fish 4 or 5 feet of straight 8lb mono leader with a foot or two of 4lb fluorocarbon tippet for stockers.
