The daytime Saturday tournaments are about to begin on Medina Lake. We usually have the Saturday tournaments every other weekend, so I have a suggestion for the off weeks. We have a tournament where we draw out of a hat different techniques or lures that we can ONLY use for that day. More and more of these kinds of tournaments are popping up, and I think it would be a really interesting concept on Medina. Some tournaments would take a lot of weight and others, probably one or two fish, plus it would force you to try and learn new techniques on a lake we have all fished for a long time and we may have gotten stuck on throwing certain baits. Please give feedback on this idea. (EVERYONE'S feedback is welcome)

Just moved to San Antonio and love tournament fishing. I left my boat in Ft. Worth, so if anyone has a back seat open for pre-fish or tournament, I'm definately interested.

You should join our bass club (Rebel Bass Club), it's a great way to learn about fishing around here, and we are very competitive club, so you know if you do good here, you can do good anywhere! The meetings are every first Tuesday of the month (that would make tomorrow the November meeting) at Longhorn Cafe. You can learn more and find out how and who to contact at sarebelbassclub.com. And we actually have a guy in our club who has a boat, but likes to let other people run the boat, while he fishes in the back. So if your interested please contact the club.

I will definately try to get to the next meeting, wish I could have made it last night, but work was pressing in Laredo. I would definately like to get with that guy you are talking about and burn up some water and rip some lips.....

I am for sure interested in the Saturday tourneys on Medina since I live 20 minutes from the lake. What is the first date and how long do they run? What are the entry fees and who do I contact for more info?

I would be for one technique thing as long as it can be policed but I would think a better idea would be to use two different techniques that way the guy in the front and back can use different lures. If this is an individual tourney then I guess one would work but could be frustating at times. Just my two cents.

I plan on fishing the Saturday tournaments.
About half of them I wouldn't be able to make it to because of work.
I would fish in the tournaments limited to one technique but I would agree with biscuits, their could be a problem with cheating and it is nice to have each guy in the boat fishing different techniques.
In my opinion the only way to eliminate the cheating from an open one technique tournament is to remove money from the tournament. Unfortunately there are too many people willing to trade their dignity for a couple hundred bucks. I would be more willing to enter the open tournaments if the entry fee was only $10 or $20.
I don't have a place to hunt deer, so if I find out there is a tournament tomorrow I will be there. Next Saturday I will probably have to work.

Okay everyone, heads up! The Saturday tournaments will begin two weeks from now, November, 20. The tournament hours will be 7am to 3pm, $40 entry fee, launch at Red Cove. Tournament directors to contact, Greg Westall 210-365-4932, Greg Westall Jr 210-683-0971, David Skelton 210-373-4979, Ted Jackson 210-854-7906, leave a message if you don't get an answer, many of us work in loud working conditions. As for the one-technique tournaments, that idea of two baits has been presented and I do think that is a good idea, and that will probably be the way it is done, and the entry fee is not really set yet, this is just an idea right now and the details will be hashed out at the first Saturday tournament. And I really think the point that there could be cheating in the one or two bait tournaments is void. We trust that everyone is not keeping fish in baskets, pooling fish with others or any number of ways you can cheat in a regular tournament, so I don't see why we can't trust that they will throw the baits we tell them to.

I already know work will prevent me from making it to the November 20th tournment. I hope to make it to some of the tournments in December though.

You do have a point that you just have to trust everyone. Too bad it isn't legal to hang the cheaters when they are caught.

You know, useing one or two techniques is fine but not all fisherman are loaded down with every bait in the books. what would you do when someone dose'nt have the bait or technique that is drawn for that day. lets say a football head you might only have a few and when there gone is your day over? Things are tight now days I say lets just go fishing.

I will look forward to the Sat. tourneys but I believe you will have limited interest in the two technique issue.

Just my $.02.....

I know myself and two other boats will not attend if this is the rule. I agree with jigcrawler, let's just go fishing. Medina is challenging enough.....

This wouldn't be the rule for the Saturday tournaments. The Saturday tournaments are held every OTHER week. This two technique idea is just for the off weeks. And by the way, in case anyone was wondering if they should come in the off weeks to see how many people show up for the two technique idea, I know of at least 4 or 5 boats that would.

The baits would be drawn for after the Saturday tournaments to allow people to get what they need. And remember, this idea is ONLY for the weeks in between the bi-weekly regular Saturday tournaments.
