Nice to see good, honest people on this site!!! If I ever run into the guy, I'll give him the rod. I'm not greedy or dishonest at all.

Was it the Mesquite Academy. I went today to buy some jig heads and saw two broken rods behind the counter.

I rec'd a 550 fish finder from my kids for f/day three years back and put it an old fishing boat. I got rid of the boat and took the fish finder out, wrapped it in a towel and stored it in the tack room in the barn. I bought a "new to me boat" this spring and installed it. The screen was shot. Something degraded while it was stored..no problem. I called academy to see if I could get parts and they told me to bring it in. They replaced my three year old fish finder..no box..no cables at full in store credit. I told them that was not my intent and they told me "No problem..we want 100% satisfaction"! I used the credit towards a new box. Tremendous!!

I sure would like to know which Academy store does all this. I took a broken Falcon rod to them and they pro-rated it based on purchase date and gave me $5.00 credit.

Not trying to start a war here, but what part of a warranty covers people breaking rods.
Not calling anyone "greedy" or "dishonost" but will have to call you out on taking advantage of a retailer.
But dont worry about it, before long we will all have to send off for "true" warranty claims. The stores wont handle any of it.

if one of the eyes fall out or the handle comes unglued or just wont stay together some how. its going back! i agree we shouldnt take advantage of a good thing or it wont be good for much longer.

Sorry but if you have a rod for 3 months and you pull an eye out of it going in and out of the rod locker, I don't see hows thats the manufacturers fault. Same goes for stepping on it, or breaking it with a car door.

I was once told by major rod builder (fly rods) that 50% of the cost of a high end rod is to cover warranty claims.

I bought a rod and reel combo last year at Dicks', in Firewheel. All Star rod, 7', medium heavy. Broke first time out, first hook set on a worm. Broke at the next to last eye from the end. Took it back and had to almost fight to get a replacement . And it was within warranty time. Decided BPS or Academy was my go to place in my future. I'm just sayin'

PM me jig, next time you decide to go to the barge. I might meet you up there. I don't usually catch much at that place, but it'll settle my urge to fish somewhat, so it isn't a total bust.
This is the time of year my FIL used to do very well catch channel cats up there.

Sounds like a plan. We need to wait a couple more weeks for the fish to move back in.

I bought 6 Eagle Claw spinning rods from Olsens out of a clearance rack for $10 ea broke 2 in 2weeks on small sand bass. The rods both broke in the same spot, I took them back to Olsens and was told they had no warranty because they were on the clearance rack even though they still had several left.
