At first, I had a hard time with viewing the side scan ..
But after a few times out and just cruisin and looking ...
It got a lot better .. All the while tweaking the settings to fit.
I can find a bunch of cats and bait real fast now. I haven't been on a decent sand bass or hybrid lake with it yet. Maybe soon !

My buddy and I have been talking about getting one of those things. We fish Lake Cumberland in KY and like to fish at night. We cast deep diving crankbaits for big stripers. I assume this thing would let us know if there are any stripers on a bank or if it is barren.

I'm using Humminbird because of their product reliability, free extras (updates, pc programs etc.), and customer support. All three of those are lacking at Lowrance right now. I had used Lowrance since I've been fishing and have had bad experiences and friends have in the recent past.

However, this can be a Ford vs Chevy thing.

Your SI unit should show structure and fish.

SCHOOL OF GAR

SCHOOL OF CRAPPIE ON BRIDGE

SCHOOL OF CRAPPIE ON BRUSH

Reading the SI unit gets simple and easy after a little while. Couldn't do without it now.

I know this is just an opinion, but me and my brother have both had probs with our hummingbird units. My brother more so than
me he has the side image unit up front, I just have a small color unit up front which has came up with a large round blotch on my screen.
Its out of warranty so I'm going with lowrance next try!!

It makes more sense when you see the image scrolling
down the machine in person.

What is on the right is on the right, what is on the
left is on the left , dark blue is under the boat.

Simple.
