Horn, that was my point. They are not the same so I didn't see the point in drawing them into the same conversation (except to take the opportunity to bemoan the GRTU program). The Guad is a river--I like rivers. I think you do too, especially the ones that you can actually fish. Who knows--I might like the tailwater stretch of the Guad more if it still sustained the warmwater species it once did but the CoE changed that about 40 years ago.

I'm sure there were plenty of trout during and for years after the last ice age in Texas..
After all there were large Fir/Aspen/Spruce forest in West Texas unlike now where there are only a few remnant forest left..
I'm sure Indians ate many a trout in the west texas creeks and rivers 10,000 years ago....
In other words.... It could be called a restoration project...

What is with the "poser" comments on this board? I'm a lease holder of GRTU and its, as Mick said, fully self-supporting. I'm not a psycologist, but it sounds to me that many of you, like I (when I was twelve) fed up and discouraged by fishing inadequacies, and other inferiority complexes, have turned your frustration into something else? Interesting. Reminds me of when I had these same inadequate feelings in adolescence...

that's some pretty cool news... Hope the wildlife department and TU can get it back in condition to sustain a C&R fishing. It's remote enough that overfishing would be difficult and unlikely. Wildlife could start raffling backcountry permits or something if it looked like it was being overfished.
Some of my favorite days fishing have been stalking super spooky, tiny wild fish in small gin clear creek. Nice change of pace from launching 8wts all day long. What a cool opportunity good luck

Best of luck to you on your project Mick. It's a sad thing when the last of a species dies.

Thanks, Scott. We hope to advocate, and work toward, a healthy native trout fishery in West Texas as you have advocated, and worked toward, a healthy self-sustaining striper fishery on Texoma.
Our project is moving forward. We have a commitment from TPWD to provide on the ground tranport for our field trip, the cooperation and participation of the National Park Service and TU national, as well as volunteer efforts from several members of GRTU, including our own Texasflycaster, who will be our official photographer.
