I was in Acadamy today and I noticed a keel protection kit for $100. Who uses a keel protector? Pros/Cons? Did you do it yourself? Will it affect the boats performance?
Any imput, please let me know.

If you have a glass boat it is good insurance for your keel. Especially if you are around concrete launches and or rocks.

yes they are worth it.I have a beaching Hamby on mind. I can pull up on a ramp if I need to.Fiber glass work is costly.Father day my spare tire bracket broken and the tire and bracket bounced and hit my boat putting a 2" triangle gouge in the side. It's going to cost min.200.00.Top it off I had a flat and no spare. Take your time and do the prep.

Go to the KeelShield site and check it out. I have been using one for years and I am very happy with it. Make sure you get the proper length for you boat. The KeelShield site will walk you through installation.

Did you do it yourself? What brand do you have on your boat?

I bought my Blue Wave used and it came with one, now that I have it I can't understand why I didn't have one on my previous boats. Down on the coast they are a necessity around the shallows and oyster reefs but here in North Texas it is wonderful to not have a second thought about beaching the boat. Definitely some of the cheapest insurance that you can buy for your boat,

Both Keel shield and Hamby's are great products but I prefer the Hamby's. It is dealer installed but worth every penny. They also come factory installed from Skeeter now. Its cheap protection for your boat and I urge anyone to get one.

Hamby's for heavy duty use is great...wouldn't go without it!

Keel protection adds life to your hull..........
I am biased about KeelShield being on their pro-staff, however I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. The product is self installable, comes in 14 colors and has a lifetime warranty for the purchaser.

Get what makes you happy!!! Hamby's made me happy, That's what I got. Yes it costed a little to put on but when it's put on with fiberglass and matting. When it on it's on, plus it's 5/8 " thick in the center, the part that would be beached. Thanks and enjoy!!!

I have read where it comes in all these color, but all I ever see is White, Black, and Grey.
Where can I get a 'blue'. I have looked at Academy, BPS, Boater's World, and West Marine.
STAY AWAY FROM WHITE!!! I have been told that they get 'dingy' or red (from beaching around Texoma's Red clay).

This may be a little off topic, or a dumb question, but i claim ignorance at this point. Regarding aluminum hulls, is there any product designed to protect them? I've noticed a couple tiny pinholes in the hull with an unidentified white substance caked around them. any ideas? thanks guys.
