Its about time to kick off the Fall Edition of the Lake Palestine Big Hybrid Contest!

HeadsRtails has kept track of the info for the Lake Pal Hybrid contests in the past, but he has some irons in the fire right now that just wont allow him the time to do it this fall. This little contest has been a very popular post in the past, so I offered to do it so we can keep it going.

Were going to try something a little different this time. First of all well split the fall contest up into two segments. The first segment will be October 1st thru November 15th. The second segment will be November 16th thru December 31st. We will also have two categories in each segment. The first being the largest fish, based on length, and the second category will be the cumulative total length of an individuals 3 largest fish. The reasoning behind this is that it may give more people an opportunity for bragging rights!

Here are the rules;
1. No entry fee.
2. Be a member of the TFF.
3. Hybrids must be caught from Lake Palestine on a rod & reel, using artificial or live bait.
4. Submit as many legal fish as you wish, but each fish submitted must have a picture of the fish being measured, and a close up picture of the tail on the measuring device. No pictures, no entry.
5. Provide date, time, and type of bait used. (You dont need to provide locations, but you can PM the coordinates to me lol!)
6. The tie breaker for the largest fish category will be the length of the second largest fish submitted by the contestants involved in the tie, continuing down until the tie is broken.
7. The tie breaker for the 3 fish cumulative total category will be the 4th fish submitted by the contestants involved in the tie, continuing down until the tie is broken.
8. Note that multiple entries may be to your benefit!

I will compile the information and keep yall updated as we progress through each segment.
Have fun out there guys and gals, and above all, be safe and be courteous while out there chasing the hybrids!

Off the exact topic: I took my kayak to Hwy 31 bridge & Neches
River last week. Had to push thru several yards of grass/weeds
south of the bridge. Took my digital camera and took pictures
of some the favorite (sand bass) catching spots & found some
new ones. Some spots that hold SB in Feb/March are down current
of large grass/weed clumps. Must be enough of them left by
Feb/March to hold the fish & break the current.

LL, I almost went down there to look around the other day. Since the water is so low..I figured it would be a good time to take a peak even if it is really really early. I still may do it in a few days. I tell you what...Im ready for the run even if it is 4 months out.

Be sure and get involved in the Big Hybrid contest this year. There has been a few tweaks to it this year that should make it better than ever. Lonestar Proud is going to keep track of it for the Fall as I've got some things to tend too and might be off the radar some.

Well, this thing will officially kick off tomorrow. Looking back at last falls contest, there wasn't a whole lot happened for the first few days of October. Hope y'all get out there and get some fish on the board this weekend, I'll be keeping an eye on the board.

Good luck to all the Lake Pal Hybrid Hunters!

Looks like I will be first on the board. Went out with Mo today and happen to land this 22" hybrid (measured off of bottom part of tail). Sorry for the quality of the photo.

I am sure this will not be the winner when all is said and done, but it is nice to get on the board.

A big thanks to Mo for taking me out today. His side image unit is incredible. How does anyone fish without one of those?

I caught this on a Humdinger at 1:30pm.

To all contestants,
Unfortunately I can't qualifying Parkensteins fish, as there wasnt a picture attached that showed the fish being measured, only the close up of the tail.
I spoke to him this morning and explained the situation, hes cool with it.
I hated to do this, but in fairness to all that may participate in this contest I had too. I know its gonna be tough later on to take pictures when the fish get on a frenzy, but there has to be the two pictures attached before Ill enter the fish on the board.
Please make sure you read the rules guys , Id really hate to see a 27 fish get DQd!!

Thanks,
LP

Solid bite on Palestine this morning. The lake seems like its in the process of a mild turnover. But that had no effect on the bite this morning. Surface temps 73 to 75 degrees. I had to weed through about 40 Sandbass to catch 3 Hybrids. Two of the Hybrids were right around 18" with one Hybrid being 22.38" for the best one of the morning.

22.38" caught on Rattletrap around 8:00 AM

Well, this thing has been slow getting started, but we didn't figure the first part of October would be very productive anyway here on the Dead Sea. I'm sure it will improve in the next few weeks though. Caught two this evening right at 7 pm on a sexy shad colored trap. One measured and one was just short. Figured I'd post the one that did measure, it was 18 5/8". I was more excited about trying out the new T-motor than actually fishin!

Caught a skinny 23 1/8" this morning at 5:50 AM under the lights. Waited till daylight to measure and take pictures. Caught it on the same sexy shad colored trap as the one Thursday evening, then lost the trap in some brush. Oh well, the paint was getting pretty much knocked off of it anyway.

BTW, Lake Pal was kinda foggy this morning......
