I can put a 1/4 oz bullet weight in a soup can from 50 yards with my spinning setup. baitcaster...not so much. Funny you say that my Dad use to pick up lures from the other end of the boat by flipping a spinning reel, talk about lazy, lazy but good.

I almost always use my spinning over my baitcaster. I have a 3000 Sustain on a 7'M that I troll DD22's for Hybrids. You can not beat the sound of that drag when a 6 pounder nails it! Period. I don't know why, but the spinning gear is a heck of a lot more fun! YMMV

Bait cast reals are designed to enable the user to pin ponit casts while fishing banks weed lines or where you beed to place a bait in just the right spot. Spinning reels should be the choice when fishing open water. They cast father with less effort.

jimbo are you saying that you can throw a bait with a spinning reel further that you can with a bait caster? Because if that is the case than I would have to say that there is a problem with your bait casting reels setup or something? Because I can cast my bait casters at least 2x's further than a spinner. Just saying.

I grew up in North Dakota and no one used a baitcaster. We fished for Walleye. Here in Texas i have one baitcaster and 10 spinning reels. I hate the baitcaster. I think it would be better with very heavy line. I try to use it 10 minutes a year. I hate it.

I like to slab with my reel disengaged and my thumb on the reel. This way I can let out line as necessary when the boat moves around. It is easier to just press the button to disengage the reel than to have to use your other hand to flip the bail open. +1
I do enjoy a good Squirt now and then.

I really love my Quantum Catalyst - smoothest spinning reel I've ever used. I use it a lot - slab with a batcaster just because it does'nt feel right on the spinning rig.
Just bought a Okuma Avenger - line feeder. It has two drags front and rear. You can set the rear so the fish can pick up the bait and run - flip the switch and the front drag takes over. Hopefully I'll be using it on some nice cats this fall.

Just saying. I don't doubt what you say but i don't have that ability or the cordination to do that. I can throw a spinning reel atleast twice as far as an aint caster and an open faced many more times further yet But i guess thats why i only troll and slab with the aint caster!!!! The plus side of this is all of us are different and thats what makes the world go round.
