Funny you say that my Dad use to pick up lures from the other end of the boat by flipping a spinning reel, talk about lazy, lazy but good.

I almost always use my spinning over my baitcaster. I have a 3000 Sustain on a 7'M that I troll DD22's for Hybrids. You can not beat the sound of that drag when a 6 pounder nails it! Period. I don't know why, but the spinning gear is a heck of a lot more fun! YMMV

Bait cast reals are designed to enable the user to pin ponit casts while fishing banks weed lines or where you beed to place a bait in just the right spot. Spinning reels should be the choice when fishing open water. They cast father with less effort.

jimbo are you saying that you can throw a bait with a spinning reel further that you can with a bait caster? Because if that is the case than I would have to say that there is a problem with your bait casting reels setup or something? Because I can cast my bait casters at least 2x's further than a spinner. Just saying.

I grew up in North Dakota and no one used a baitcaster. We fished for Walleye. Here in Texas i have one baitcaster and 10 spinning reels. I hate the baitcaster. I think it would be better with very heavy line. I try to use it 10 minutes a year. I hate it.

I really love my Quantum Catalyst - smoothest spinning reel I've ever used. I use it a lot - slab with a batcaster just because it does'nt feel right on the spinning rig.

Just bought a Okuma Avenger - line feeder. It has two drags front and rear. You can set the rear so the fish can pick up the bait and run - flip the switch and the front drag takes over. Hopefully I'll be using it on some nice cats this fall.

I don't doubt what you say but i don't have that ability or the cordination to do that. I can throw a spinning reel atleast twice as far as an aint caster and an open faced many more times further yet But i guess thats why i only troll and slab with the aint caster!!!! The plus side of this is all of us are different and thats what makes the world go round.
