Read an article in the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram the other day about Ford's new and improved V-6 engine for the Ford F-150. It is suppose to be more fuel efficent (23 MPH hwy) and has just as much pulling power as their V-8. If anyone has plans to replace their tow vehicle, you might wait to see about this upgrade. Their key market is for folks like us that tow boats, heavy trailers (ranchers, farmers, etc). It's turbocharged cranks out quite a bit of horsepower for being a V-6. Too bad I pulled the trigger on a V-8 F150 last Sept. but my little Ranger was on it's last legs. Also, they are eliminating the Ranger P/U after 2011 models, fyi.

Sounds good...maybe...I believe it's always a good idea to wait a couple of years on such new things.

Just do a search on the Ford 6.0 diesel.

If you got the f-150 with the 4.6 then you have a proven system.

Seems like a viable option with that kind of torque. Not sure how a load will affect mileage/longevity with that small displacement though. Give it a couple years.

I'll stick with my 800ft/lbs of duramax for the time being grin

Sounds good.

Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost, I have a feeling I would buy that.

I tell myself this pulling my aluminum boat down the road(in my 2005 f150)getting less than 10 MPG and losing 5-10 MPH on anything that looks like a grade, a true gutless wonder. No trouble but no power at all, does real good empty and I guess that's the way city slickers use a pickemup.

I have a 2009 F150 with the 4.6L V8. I get about 19-20mpg around town depending on how much my foot hits the pedal. I get 22-25mpg on the highway. And here is the kicker I get 19mpg pulling the boat from San Antonio to Choke Canyon and back. I run about 65mph on I37 the whole time. I am sold on the smaller V8. It does everything I ask it to. I have done my own mpg test on my truck many times and got the same numbers as the trucks information screen so its correct.

Ford is coming out with a real good V6 power plant for the F150 in that 3.5-liter Ti-VCT EcoBoost. I wont be surprised if it wins tons of awards. I might have to test drive that truck!

Yeah but they changed the 4.6L in 2009. My 2006 F150 has the 4.6L V8 and like jackie kennedy just stated, its gutless. It has never given me a problem but it doesnt have V8 power. My 4.6L is the 2v. They started making the 4.6L in a 3v a few years ago which made this motor more powerful, about 60hp more than my 2v.

And im not sold on this V6 even with its twin turbos. Maybe as a daily driver but not for towing.

Since 2004 there has been two 4.6L a 2valve and 3valve. along about 2008 they quit offering the v6 and went to the base motor 4.6L 2valve, the 4,6L 3valve was an upgrade since 04 most of the Lariat packages were the 5.4L 3valve all of the King Ranch were 5.4L 3valve. Ironically the comercial fleet vans only come to this date with either the 4.6L 2valve or the 5.4L 2 valve (yes they still make it). We have one of the vans with the 4.6L and looking at a 3/4 ton vehicle loaded it won't get out of it's own way. One thing I learned a long time ago whether it's a boat or a truck don't cheat yourself when it comes to power. Afterall you wouldn't put a 150hp outboard on a 21' boat rated for a 225hp and expect alot of positive results would you? Allways get the max-power available you'll never be disappointed.

I have an 07 F150 with the 4.6 2v. In 635 traffic every day I average about 17-18 MPG and about 21 on the road. I get 15 pulling my old 17 Kingfisher. But thats not driving like a bat outta you know what. Does it have the power to smoke the tires or win a race? No but it gets the job done. I pulled a flat bed with a Suburban on it from Mineola to Dallas with no problems. If you want to be able to yank the axles out from under your boat trailor maybe you should get one of those diesels that have blown, chipped and injected.

Looks like you have a Supercab 2wd. Are you using big rigs for drafting partners? If not, then I would say you have found the sweet spot. I would be interested in what kind of mileage a 2009 Supercrew 4x4 gets with the same motor.

I wonder if this is the same engine they are talking about in the 30+mpg v-6 mustangs? I can't see getting a whole lot of torque out of it, but then one never knows, does one?

I believe it is. There was an article in the Morning News last week that said the new Ford truck engines are in use in cars.
