What does everyone think of a little group outing on scenic Lake Athens? I'm thinking about the weekend of October 9th for a tentative date.

For those of you who only have human powered watercraft, Athens is a great lake to kick or paddle around. There is a lot of nice water near the marina.

I'd love too, but I have to go on a fishing trip with the inlaws(with a live bait, hand-holding guide). I've been wanting to fish the salt for quite sometime, but not so-much like this.

Count me in for both. I actually have a BOAT now instead of being cramped in the Bass Hunter

Dang, I hate that Derik and quack won't be able to make it.

Derik, a rehearsal dinner? Tell her I said you looked plenty capable of eating dinner without embarrassing yourself and others without practicing. smile

quack, we might have to invest in a new, non-bait chucking set of inlaws for you. smile

PB, I'm looking forward to seeing your new ride.

Mike, that reminds me: where is deckhand? Someone tell him the water in Athens will be much warmer in early October than it was in Hawkins in mid January.

For those of you with family, remember that the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is literally next door to the lake. The Athens area also has quite a few antique stores if your significant other with whom you're romantically affiliated with is into that sort of thing.

I will be driving no more than 5mph over the speed limit through Kaufman and Kemp, and no more than the speed limit exactly through Eustace.

Also, for that pickerel thing in January I might break my rule about never tying a fly that takes more than 5 minutes from putting the hook in the vise to whip-finishing the head. MIGHT.

I believe Lee is probably shooting at some Teal ducks as we type/speak

Fishin for Pikes taught one good lesson, use craft fur when ya can, much more durable than feathers or bucktail.

Those are two fine outings. I'm putting them on my calendar.

I may definitely be able to make the jackfish(as we call pickerel) outing.

Red, I hate that I won't be able to make it too, but we'll have to try an outing sometime soon after that. We've got Somerville(heard that the flat-fish are tearing it up right now) and Gibbons Creek down my way plus I'll have a new boat that needs to be broken in. Or I could come back to that nice little honey-hole you have in Athens grin

Load up, mister. We need at least one responsible adult along. smile

I'm all for it, once I get my schedule a little more straightened out.

Are you thinking a Fulton Sky Hook kind of extraction, or something more clandestine?

I can easily enough detour through downtown on my way to Athens. It's only about 2 hours (or less from downtown) so you'd be back in plenty of time for anything that's happening after dark. Your call.
