There's just something special seeing those critters in the wild.

Sad thing is the city of GP wants to build a hotel/resort in that particular area. They've already given the OK to build a resteurant (sp)just east of the Oasis/marina. I think they should reconsider before they totally screw up the lake.

_Mike_, it could be a little humorous if a hotel/resort patron opened his door and saw a bobcat.

redfin, that happened back in 1973. I did see the kittens. In addition to the bobtail, they way they ran was like the gait of a bobcat. We moved and I have no idea what happened to the kittens.

Catfish,
The caprock area there is FULL of those things. I have seen several out at Alan Henry. Saw on the other day chase a rabbit across the road in front of me. That was neat sight. I dont know if he/she caught it or not, but they are both very agile creatures.

I use to work on the Texas Giant at six flags back in the day, and checking the ride one morning, one popped out of the woods by the creek that runs under the ride. Biggest one I've ever seen by far.

So I was driving to work Friday morning and I saw what looked to be a Mountain Lion/Cougar/Puma cub dead in the road. I was going to turn around to check it out but I really had to get to work. I was going south on 2499 just past Gerault in Flower Mound headed to Grapevine.

I'm not 100% sure thats what it was but it was light tan in color had a round head and a really long tail. Anyone heard of anything about that or work for whoever picks up dead animals.

FYI
The Pixie-Bob breed was accepted into TICA as "new breed and color" in 1995, and for Championship status in 1997. Although the TICA standard cites the resemblance to the American Bobcat, the founding committee is adamant that no "captive" American Bobcats be used in a breeding program. Brewer insists that only "Legend Cats," i.e. cats believed to be the result of naturally occurring breeding between a bobcat and a barn cat can be legitimately used in breeding Pixie-Bobs.
To reinforce those opinions, the TICA designation of the Pixie-Bob as a "Native New Breed" carries this definition: "A new breed which has been identified through selection of phenotypically similar individuals from a naturally occurring population indigenous to a particular geographic region."

You might want to be careful if you see a bobcat (or any other wild animal) behaving in a manner that doesn't seem normal. A few years back, I was living in Sunrise Beach on Lake LBJ and one afternoon I was sitting in my den watching TV when a large bobcat walked onto my patio and walked up to the sliding glass doors which led to my den and stood there peering in. We were there, 5 feet apart, looking at each other. After a while, it turned and trotted off down the bank toward the neighbor's house. I called and alerted him that it was on its way. The next morning, a neighbor a little farther down that way went out to get his morning paper and a bobcat attacked him. His neighbor heard him yelling and went out and shot the bobcat with his shotgun. They had the animal tested for rabies, and sure enough, it was rabid. The guy had to get the rabies shots. I don't know for sure if it was the same bobcat that came on my patio the day before, but nobody will ever convince me that it wasn't. A wild animal walking up on someone's patio and looking in their house, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, is exhibiting unusual behavior. So, be wary when they're doing something that they don't normally do.

I saw some deer(lots of them) and some elk this morning.

Elk were behind a high fence in Glen Rose. Man those things are huge. I need to make a trip up north with a 45-70.
The deer were at Dinosaur Valley. My lil cow dog jumped out of my window after them...lol
Glad no one saw that. She came back as soon as I yelled/screamed at her. laugh

Ferrets on the dam at lewisville. Coons on the dam at Lewisville. Deer at Possum Kingdon (in the lake). Turkey at Amon Carter. Gators at Rayburn and Squaw Creek. Neutras (sp?) in several lakes. Eagles at Rayburn and Bob Sandlin. That's about it. Oh yea, beavers on a couple of lakes. smile

Catt951, that is interesting since the kittens I posted about were born in 1973. I had wondered if the kittens could be kept as house cats or if they remained more of the feral traits of the bobcat.

Oh, I almost forgot to share my most unusual story. There was a couple that brought their pet bobcat into a local home improvement store on a leash.

I saw a mountion lion jump over a ravine next to a cove at Lewisville, in the same cove saw a 3ft gator about 9 months later. I do not walk around the cove on land anymore only by boat.
