I do not know of many skin mounts being done any more. They have been known to rot if not done exactly right and the fins have a tendency to break or chip if bumped or even when dusting.

Congrats on the 45". Someone told me that skin mounted reds stink for at least a year?

At one time TPWD was releasing redfish into the bay systems around the state. The general message was that the need to recover the lose of adult spawning fish after the freezes, netting and over fishig. I understand that if I take one mature redfish, it will not hurt the big picture. but if a you kill (x) number of cows in a herd it decreases the possible production, the same for redfish. So it confuse me that a fishermen is allowed to remove breeding stock. If the state needs fish to release then limit the removial. as young fellow I work a summer job in a state fish hatchery, producing redfish for release. Why pay me for population maintence? But that is soap box. Eating large is poorly a matter of take, I have fished all through the gulf coast of the US and fish quality for tablefare is greatly divesre. Good luck to all
