I've gonr to Ray Hubbard 2 times & no real luck. Today there were 2 guys in the same area as me reeling them in at a consistant rate. I've only had luck on a minnow pattern Little George. Tried various color blue fox--nothing. Please help.

Dave, they might have been sitting right on top of a school, like on a hump, sometimes you have to be right on top of them. Also, were they using slabs? if they were, watch how they work them.

They were moving around the area like me. They were casting & retriveing a small lure.

Dave, I my opinion, you could save about a years time on the learning curve and hire John Varner for a day. He is very good about teaching customers the fine points of catching white bass. It would be a very good investment.

No offence but right now my family has other uses for the money required to hire a guide. I know that would be a good idea but it's not in our budget.

Dave,
In my opinion, get rid of those Little Georges and go to Southwestern Parts and Service on Mockingbird and Irving Blvd. and pick up some 3/4 oz. white/silver speck Humdingers and a couple of white, silver, char. slabs for schooling and suspended fish. Check Academy for clear Torpedos and Storm Chug Bugs for surfacing fish.
The Humdingers can also be purchased from Humdingers.com. The lures above are the best for sandy/hybrid. There are certain techniques to be used. Do a search on this forum for them.
If you are not going to hire a guide, do the research. Much info on this forum!

Bob I Plan on getting some Humdingers. I've done searches & mostly what I come up with is vague. I know most people don't want to give their secrest & I understand this. I'm just looking for a little help in converting myself from a LMB only fisherman.

Dave,
How's this? "Rog Outdoorsman posted 09-08-2005 01:13 PM Harv, try the area out from the power plant intake this time of year. Sit on the park side (south side) of the channel, line up with the south bank of the channel going into the intake in about 15-20ft of water and chunk into the channel (North). Burn the slab up 20-30 cranks and let it fall back. Most will hammer it as it comes up the side of the channel. The power plant pulling current will stack them in there. Use a green/silver 1-11/2 once slab. Other areas to try are the main lake end of the peanut (hump in the middle of the jetty on the main lake side that you can find by running parrallel to the jetty about a 100yrds off of it), the ridge that runs out from Robinson Park on the east side of the park (SE of the marina, use to be bouys marking it), the 30 bridge channel on the Rockwall side, the point just south of the heat boat ramp (Yankee creek area and levees close by)and the gravel pit. Find the school using slabs and your electronics to catch more and bigger fish. Do not waste your time chasing schools that pop up and go down quickly or that are roaming wide open expanses of the lake."
Also, you can use the Humdinger much as you use slabs. Just cast out, let the lure fall to the depth where the fish are marked on your graph. The 3/4 oz. falls about 2 feet per second. Or, let the lure fall all the way to the bottom.
Then raise rod tip about a couple of feet and reel in; lower rod tip and repeat, letting the lure "bounce" along the bottom or at your selected depth. The larger fish are usually there. This technique works in surfacing fish, too...just don't go quite to the bottom.
If the fish are there and biting....these techniques will work!
I STILL say....do the research on this forum! Tremendous info here....both for techniques and fishing spots. Then go try the techniques and use your electronics.
Good luck.

Bob do you have a problem with me asking for help? Like I said I'm new to this type of fishing & appeared to be doing the same thing the other guys were doing. That says to find the school--I found it with my depth finder & nothing!

Dave, I think bob is just trying to lead you in the direction of doing a search of the posts on here. The is alot of info on lure presentation, areas to fish what to look for etc. Questions are usually answered it just might take a lil looking. I have been in the same "boat " as you . Fish everywhere on the graph but no bites. Thats usually when I will try slabs of the bottom or tie on a tailhumer/humdinger. If the still arent biting try tying on a small jig 18 inches above you slab and see if you can get them to hit that. And of course you can always just luck into some topwater action, then throw anything shiny and they will destroy it!! just a few things I thought I would pass on. good luck and better fishing!! Thank you Fatty. I have done searches But since I'm new to this type of fishing much of what I read is foreign to me. I guess a good comparison is if I tried to read a doctors medical manual---most of it would go right over my head.

dave, everyone has good advice.......and BobC described the better places to try on Ray Hubbard....geta Lake map at Wal Mart and check out BobC's locations..........keep an eye out for the birds.........I carry an 8 power pair of binoculars in the boat. You need to be on the water right now early or late.........by middle of October after the first "cold" front comes through, fishing will pickup again, with more surface schooling and more birds. Check out my web site listed below for some more hints on catching whites and hybrid-stripers. I am NOT a guide just someone that enjoys fishing. www.wingsoverusa.com/home.htm Good Luck.

LOL DR. Sandbass!!! I understand like I said , I was once just a Bassman like you too. It takes a bit of time to transfer thinking. Bass fishing it something I have done all my life so I just think that way. I cant even look at water without my brain picking out all the fishy looking places. the thing about sandbass is that most of the signs are underwater (hump,drop-offs,flats,etc) I found that the biggest help in me finding them is learning how to read my graph (sounds like you can do that). But just because you can find the sandies doesnt mean the are going to bite. It just makes me more frustrated to see them on my graph and not catching them. Just keep your head up and remember these guy have been slaying them for years. I have gotten better over the years but I have MUCH to learn. Also one of these days get someone to split a guided trip with ya 1/2 the cost all the learning. I talk big but I am still hoping my wife gets me a guided trip with omar on grapevine so I can see how he fishing my home lake and see how he approaches it. My goal every trip is the same: 1 learn something 2 dont get too sunburned 3 have some fun 4 catch some fish 5 dont sink the boat if I get all 5 it was a good trip

Dave,
We have all had bad days. I had one day this year, where no matter which spot I went I couldn't catch fish. At each spot everyone kept telling me "you should have been here 15 minutes ago!!" I was 15 minutes behind the fish all day. Other times I have been catching them like crazy, and a boat next to me isn't catching a thing. These things just happen. Stick with it, try new things, keep reading the forum, and you will figure it out.
Bob
