This is a four foot alligator gar that I caught yesterday with my buddy Richard. Richard didn’t wait for me to smile, so I look upset about catching it. This is a four foot fish that Richard caught yesterday, we saw numerous fish rolling in this location. This is not an alligator gar, rather it is a side catch from my trip yesterday, a 20# flathead caught on fresh cut carp during the middle of the day in August. Here is the highlight of the day for me, a 77.5” alligator gar with a girth of 29 7/8”. This fish was 100#’s or bigger. ’ Another picture of the 77.5” fish that I landed, in this photo the fish is in the process of flailing around in my arms and scraping them up really good. If you will notice, when these fish flop their eyes retract into their head just like a sharks. Despite 104 degree temps which were interrupted by a sudden shower we had an excellent trip with six alligator gar landed and two catfish as well as four soft shell turtles. All fish were released to fight again after photos and measurements. Send a pm if interested in going after one of these prehistoric giants yourself! Dawson

What kind of bait are you using?
Nice pics!

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

You know the funny thing is, they get three times the weight of that big one. It was a skinny fish for its length, a buddy of mine had one with me earlier this year that had a girth 5" thicker than this fish, although his was only 1.5" longer.
