I have a 2007 chevy silverado ext cab, it pulls my 17ft boat great, I cant even tell its there. But it only gets 14-16 mpg's when im not towing anything, so Im sure that drops significantly when im towing my boat. It even has the fuel managment system where it shuts off 2 or 4 cylinders if your not using to much power. Im not happy with the gas milage or the monthly payment...lol

Japanese trucks are kinda like Japanese motorcycles...no matter how hard you try, its just real tough to feel cool pulling up in one.

It all depends on what you want in my opinion.
If you want a great tow vehicle get a Cummins.
If you want a good tow vehicle get a Powerstroke or Duramax.
If you want a vehicle that can pull a boat get any 1/2 ton gasser.
I hear pretty good things about Titans, however it is only from people with Titans. And there is no way you are going to get the same gas mileage as you do from those diesels you've had.

You will regret getting rice burner if you are used to the raw power of a diesel. I Agree with Hammerpants, remember the fat chick on a moped.

I have an 09 dodge with the hemi. It will flat pull. I came out of a Ford 1 ton so I know where your at. I miss the fuel millage from the diesel but ride comfort and ability to find a parking spot (I live in the metro mess) made it any easy decision. You might give the dodge a look see.

I work for a new car dealer service department and have driven a lot of new or newer trucks. Ask your dealer to let you pull your boat and you will find your answer. If they wont let you pull, dont by from them. As for diesel vs gas, diesel will pull heavy loads better but a gas tuck will be a lot less money and a lot beter ride. If you do not pull 10k lbs alot buy gas. I drive a 05 Trundra 4.7l 4wd, pulls ok and milage is around 13.4 mpg towing at 75 mph hwy. I also have a 06 Yukon XL 5.3l 2wd pull like a dream gets 16 mpg towing at 75 mph hwy. I have a place at fork and pull my 20ft triton all the time. As for Japanese vs. American both make very good 1/2 ton trucks. I see alot of both on our preowned lot.
Just my $0.02 from a 20 year Master Tech.

a new tundra will out pull any half ton out there, given that they're both stock.

HAHA WRONG. A Tundra wont even come close to a bone stock new 6.2L chevy with 4.10 gears. Id like to see you try!!!
Shoot Id even bet a 5.3L with the 4.10 will give it a fight!

Hard to find, but I love the 2002 7.3L Powerstroke on Ford Super-Duty trucks. One of the stoutest and most dependable engines ever made for them.

okay tanker, you're entitled to your own opinion. im a chevy owner myself but i know the tundra is raw power. don't know what gears they come with but i know 4:10's will drain your tank quicker than you can say d#mn while pulling on the hwy. check out this vid. . .

If you're looking for an SUV, I find it hard to find much better than a Cadillac Escalade 4WD or comparable Tahoe or Yukon. We use a 2005 Escalade with the 6 liter V8, and it's really great to travel in. Not only is it perfect for towing, it's supremely comfortable and isn't a Nissan. Plus, a good lightly used one isn't terribly expensive.

i had a 07 titan and it pulled my 20ft boat great, but gave me alot of problems once i started hitting around 70k miles. i average about 11 mpg. i have a 2010 f-150 now and it pulls it "almost" as good, but way better on gas(about 14.6 around 75 pulling) and that was all the way from dfw to falcon and back.
