There's a story here of a grass carp that went 80 lbs and was 52 inches long. An 8-foot grasser would be almost twice that length and probably at least 160 pounds, more than twice the current world record. That would be an awesome fish. http://www.bassonhook.com/newsinfo/article%20619.html

that line was a joke
Rounded dorsal fin? Pointy tail fin? what color is this creature, does it have scales that you can see, and does it every surface for air?
take a big piece of meat out there and throw at it in front of it, then see how it reacts

I would just go out there with 50 lbs. test and throw range cubes on a hair with a nice big hook. If it is a grasser you should be able to get him on that. I would probably set my drag around 8-10 lbs of pressure so ya dont get spooled too!

There are some grass carp in Lake Winnepesaukeh in Rossville, GA that go at least 4 feet long. They're huge and love popcorn.

I am trying to help you figure it out, but you are not giving me or anyone else any useful information to help you identify it. You need to be more specific than light colored. Is it light green? Does it ever roll on the surface?

I realize Sturgeon aren't much talked about here -- however, there are actually few fresh water fish that can achieve the lengths being talked about here -- sturgeon are definitely NOT on that list. Quote from a Sturgeon hunter "If you've ever had a chance to look into the eyes of a sturgeon, there are unfathomable depths there that take you back millennia; they take you back ages and ages ago. And having looked into the eyes of a sturgeon, you can fully understand that these animals swam practically unchanged from the way they are today when dinosaurs walked the earth." Some years ago, my son and I were fishing a lake in central California, that was reputed to have a monster fish in it. We'd caught some nice carp to the mid teens, and just as we were packing up, something humongous rolled over where I'd been fishing. I've seen some pretty big Carp/Buffalo roll --and cause a big 'boil' in the water -- but this was beyond belief. The fish had to have been at least 6ft long. and the disturbance it made in the still eater was freaking awesome -- and scary - at the same time. I lived in British Columbia for a while, on the Frazier river -- where, they fish for those things with a whole leg of lamb, and huge hooks. So -- highly unlikely, but -- could it be one of those monsters? Unless they would NOT survive here (?) -- who knows what is really in there?

It was prolly one of those 16" bluegills from the next forum.
I think it might be "OLD SAM", a big silver carp down Mayberry, North Carolina way. Howard Sprague (my CUZZIN) caught him some years back and put him in an aquarium. Public opinion won Old Sam's freedom and as far as I know he is still swimming around somewhere. IT COULD HAPPEN!
****Sun sinking low....lines baited.....gentle south breeze blowing...you realize.........I AM! .
