Pvilleyanker,
Yegua and Nails are too tree covered to flyfish very well but Birch and Jardelle creeks are open enough and less crowded, even though there doesn't seem to be as many fish. I'll flyfish all over the rest of the lake but never have really gotten into the whites good with my flyrod. I will usually get out in the better areas and wade. I'm sure you can understand why if you have fished out of a kayak much..

Well heck, my wife had to go to Austin, so I decided to go fishing at the Yegua one more time to see what I could come up with.

I started out at Irwin Bridge and never even got a hit. Went to Newmans bottom and boy was it ever slow there too. I only had three hours to fish today, so I started out in the holes where I was catching them yesterday. Today was nothing like yesterday, it was even slower. Caught eight fish and thats it. Oh well, look at the bright side of this okay, yesterday I caught 17, and today was 8.

17+8=25

In two days, which consist of 7 hours of fishing time, I did manage to catch a limit. WooHoo.

In my opinion, (32 years of experience) I think the Yegua white bass spawn is declining right now. Even though I am still catching females, their egg sacks are real close to empty. But on the other hand, I have caught some small females and their eggs look like they have never fully developed yet. Either way folks, the bite will only get slower as the days pass. They have come up, did their thing, and now most of them are on their way back to the lake.

It sure doesnt seem like I caught as many fish this year as I did last year. There were a couple of times that I went to the lake fishing and I should have gone to the Yegua when it was hot. Every time the fishing started to get good, it would rain and mess things all up for a week or two. It was a little tougher this year than it has been in the last couple. Oh well, there is always next year to look forward to.

Now I need to focus on Reimers. The bite there is just starting to get good.

Fishytx,

I guess I'm in denial, cause I'm going this afternoon laugh but if it's over it won't really matter to me cause I never did any good down there the past month (ranged from getting 10 to getting skunked), so if its really slow today... well what's new wink

-last year I missed the spawn completely, but I could still catch em a month after (max was probably 10-15) and others would fish all day and get a limit. So I'll still be going through march, never had a limit so a good day is 5 and a great day is 10 laugh laugh

congrats hl&s!

-went wed afternoon caught haft a limit laugh

-I don't have any experience in guessing how long it will last, but they are still running up in the current and spawning, every spot I stopped they were chasing around on the surface. If ya'll say it's bout to end it may be true, but when the whites call it quits I'll do the same wink

(I was at one part where another creek feeds into yegua, water was moving pretty quick and there were three pinned up against the bank, moving upstream. Could have grabbed em or snagged them but I instead repeatedly dropped a jig infront of them to no success... started to feel sorry for them but they eventually swam away)

-this cold front sure is a downer rolleyes

With all the spawing activity you were seeing it can't be much longer, all the fish will be plum wore out! I haven't witnessed a peak spawning period like you have and kind of feel like going this weekend just to see it myself. I wonder if the rain and cooler weather will slow it down.
