Lake Bryan is a good lake but you really have to learn how to fish it. I've never concentrated on crappie but that is whats going this time of year. It does have a good population of LM bass and I can usually catch my share but you really have to work at it. I like to flyfish Lake Bryan because most of the fish I catch are small and much more fun on the fly..
Things are heating up at work and I'm the only tech.. I might not get out all week and with the weather looking like it does I might stay inside and tie some more jigflys..

Wow, 12 pages on Newman's and it's only Feb 1. LOL
Rain is supposed to take a break for a couple of days. I dunno if it will be long enough to clear up the water down there or not. I sure hope so. I'm keeping a close eye on the weather.

Re: Somerville's pool level, releases, etc.
I believe that one of the major factors in the Corps' decision to release from Somverville dam is based upon the amount of water flowing down the Brazos. If the Brazos is high, they'll won't release, or minimally release, water from Somerville (if Somerville is above pool).
If Somerville is above pool and the Brazos can take the additional water released from the lake, then they'll open her up and send it downstream.

I believe you're right becuase if I remember correctly, Somerville was created for flood control of Houston. But who knows, can't recall who told me that.

I'm guessing the creek will still be flooded by this weekend, I hear that area got another good rain today. Anyone have opinions on the creek this weekend? Will it be fishable?

maybe Nails creek or any of the other smaller or shorter creeks will be fishable but they will all be muddy for sure..

Hugo, Nails creek is just as easy to fish either way and I do both. I think it might be more productive from the bank then in my kayak but a old wide flat bottom boat would be best.
millerwb, what fly fishing thing? Probably not the Houston thing but I'll go to the lake if you want!

HL&S, I don't think I will get to the lake this weekend. My wife will be out of town and that makes planning a bit more difficult. If it does work out, I will call you. The Houston thing is a Fly Tying show/workshop thing. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/3020530

I checked Newman Bottom this morning and it appeared that the road and parking lot had about 2 feet of water covering it.
