"I still think that if Skeet doesn't win the postseason, it's going to be a shame. If he loses AOY, he lost because of the format BASS has established. Instead of one long season, it's now a regular season and a postseason. But, as they say, it is what it is".

I could see the winner called Elite Series Champion over AOY. But I wouldn't have both an Elite Series Champion and an AOY. I think you would only have 1, not both. But what is in the name, the result is the same. Under this format, the way it played out KVD is the Champion or AOY for 2010. I don't think you can argue that point. You can argue the rules may not have been the same the last 2 years, but under the format, KVD is the winner.

im not as familiar as my husband on this whole thing. my thought is to award the AOY to the angler with the best overall performance during the regular season. the post season will then be used to set up a points race for the Classic champion. this would all culminate at the Classic and one person will be awarded the championship.....with the current format, it seems to me that the Classic has lost its luster, except to maybe the participants and "AOY" was not awarded by the merits which it was started on and held true for so many years.

You work the 1st 10 months of the year, hit all the marks and have the highest commissions for the year but there is a special promotional strategy the last two months of the year and the guy with better then average numbers hits the jackpot for those two months and gets the 6 figure bonus (not you even though your numbers are better for the year), he also gets the new office with a view and promotion.
You would find a new place to work, end of story...... You have made my point exactly. If Reese does not like the format, then head over to the FLW. Things in life are not always fair. But the true champions find a way to rise to the top. Hopefully next year it will be back to the regular format and everyone will be happy. Then (even though I really do not care) KVD beats Skeet by .001 ounce in the final tournament to beat him by 1 point in AOY standings. I would get a chuckle. Heck Skeet may go postal on him. I remember at the classic Squirrel said why don't you just go away. To bad for them KVD has a few more years of fishing.

Make it really fair and go into the post season with the points that they have accumulated throughout the regular season. No adjusted points or nothing. There wouldn't have been a reason to watch it this year though, cause no one could have caught Skeet. Also, with such a small field, why not hold the last two tourneys on small mystery lakes? I guess BASS doesn't want another fiasco like that Grapevine tourney where Ish won with that big ole 7 pound stringer of his.

Maybe the Title AOY is misleading but it isn't like Skeet didn't fish the last 2 tournaments. What Clunn meant to say is that Skeet had the best REGULAR SEASON he has seen in 37 years of professional fishing. We live in Texas we have all seen this before if you like sports at all. Cowboys 13-3 regular season lose first round of postseason Mavs 67-15 regular season lose first round of postseason. It all comes down to the postseason so SACK up and win baby, KVD is just clutch when it comes title time

AOY should be decided during that year as the tournaments unfold or do we need to replay each tournament to see if we can get a little more money for the sponsers , as this is what it's all about by extending this to a fish off-Money, money , it's not about the best fisherman but MONEY

You cant blame the system only for Skeet not being AOY. I like Skeet but HE didnt perform when he needed to. I don't quite understand this. So the other guys didn't need to perform earlier in the year when Skeep was racking up firsts and seconds? What makes the last two tournaments more indicative of who was the best fisherman over the course of the year? +1

I am game post season next year for all tourney trail b/c we all know the rules so why not.... Who will bitch now????????

Skeet knew the format going in, so although I have sympathy for him, congrats to Kevin. He made it work out in his favor. I don't like the format, but that being said, everyone is aware of it from the get-go. Take it or leave it. Something to mirror the NASCAR model was required for a media drama at the end game. Folks get bored, and tune out if a race is not 'close', or a comeback is negated. BASS threw a 'debris' caution right at the end of the race. Close up the field, and now folks may watch. Now, having said that, how difficult could a 'fishing' scorecard for one tournament, or a series of tournaments, be to accumulate? Each tournament is won by the angler with the most pounds. At the end of the year, the angler with the most pounds is the Angler of the Year. The pinheads can count the points, and I promise the angler can count the money.....but damn.......it's fishin'.......most pounds win. What am I missin' here? Sorry for the rant. Jim

They are still on a 10 Tournament format, but the last 2 only fishes the top 12. The top 12 were really the only anglers that had a shot at AOY before they went to this 8 Regular/ 2 Post format. It really isn't any different than before, except for the math. Most likely you would have the same results, if it had been the old format for the last 2 seasons.
KVD is just good at coming from behind and Skeet is good at giving it away in the end. Skeet has posted up a 3, 2 and 3 the last three seasons. KVD has been 1, 1 and 1. Dude is just good.

IMO all this talk about "post season" like in other sports is irrelevant to this scenario. First of all, if you want to make the comparison to team sports, think of the Classic as being the "World Series" or postseason. In this format then the AOY should be as the MVP award and is given to the player who performs best throughout the regular season. IMO BASS has tweaked everything they have had until it has brought them down in the bass fishing world. They have lost memberships and sponsors (I am aware they say it is the economy-but me thinks that is not the only reason). Lastly, one day KVD will be like Clunn-just an old great who has been overtaken by a young gun. All of those who worship the ground KVD walks on cracks me up. Many have risen, but all will one day fall. Have a great day.
