Maybe we should start writing letters and go through the motions of getting some kind of program started for these fish. It is a big business and is a not too distant 2nd to Black Bass. We could have a share a slab program. Any 2.75 or larger can be accepted from Feb 20th until April 30th. With each SAS(share a slab) thats turned in you will recieve a certificate and a free replica.

Blake said "it's in the dirt" and that is the fact...Farther east you go the better the dirt...True dat...

I also don't think many if any 3+ live in our local waters...Big fish that come from our waters may reach 2.5 at best it seems...I have caught two like that and many over 2 but I don't expect to get a 3+ anywhere around here...

To me, Texoma and Grapevine are big fish lakes and every once in a while Lewisville will produce some good fish...But always in the 2.0-2.5 range...

Just a guess but I would suspect that the life expectancy of a crappie doesn't allow them to get that big in this part of the country...When they do it's abnormal...Different climate and dirt allows them to grow bigger faster...Just a guess...

I like them 2+ fish tho...

In all seriousness, I believe that Tim is right. I think that it is alot like whitetail deer. You aint killing a 300lb deer in Central Texas and it has alot to do with genetics and alot to do with environment.

Looks like grapevine has the biggest recorded fish, but texoma has a lot of 14 and 15" fish from what I could tell last week. those 2 are gonna be my focus for the rest of the year. come on october.

I agree with Tim and Blake .A crappie life span is 5 to 7 yrs .With the short life span and hot dry yrs we have may stress the growth of these fish. Most of the record fish caught from lakes were in the early stages of there life they most likely came from ponds and lakes that were flooded by the lake.Im like Ernest I bet there is going to be a whopper come from Squaw Creek real quick. Most of us dont fish for big fish ( except on tourney days) we like catching not fishing.Ha Me included. They will be solitude fish in prime spots with all they can eat and easy access to any depth water they choose. When I fished with Todd Huckelbee he showed me a stump with a 3 lber that he catches everytime they want a big fish pic he said I dont know how many times I have caught her but she is always there yr round.Take that for what its worth.Ha We all know to catch the biguns you got to go to the remote spots and fish for big fish and be happy with size not numbers. My 5 cents minus 3 .Darrell
