I've tried freezing grasshoppers for bait the following Spring, but they always turn black. A fellow told me that if you freeze them in yellow corn meal--yellow grasshoppers are all I use--that they will still be yellow when re-thawed. Anyone ever hear of, or try this?

Haven't heard of that, but what about putting them into a plastic zip lock bag and adding enough water to cover them and freeze them like that as you would fish?
Haven't tried it but it might be worth a shot.
Just one more cast!

Ditto to what Jimbo said. We have frozen them in water several times and when they thaw you could swear they are about to jump. Very natural looking.

Don't know if this is the same type of thing, but with catalpa, I boil them for about 2 minutes, let them cool, then freeze them in corn meal. That keeps them from freezer burn and they aren't mushy when you thaw them.

i had a friend that fished the upper end of lake coleman ... he used 16 oz coke bottles ... he would catch the yellow grasshoppers at nite & put them in the bottle as he caught them ... he would freeze several bottles full every summer & use them all thru the winter ... he didn't freeze them in water ... the bottle worked like a dispenser, just shake one out ... they would come out one at a time ... he used them on drop hooks in willow trees in the upper end of coleman ... many people would take note of hos success & want to know where he got yellow grasshopopers in the middle of the winter
regards albertking catfishing is now an industry ... it's best for the industry to eat baby catfish

The coke bottle freezing is the way to go and corn meal does work.
