Thanks!
It looks like I would need an engine mounted trolling motor or one that mounts on back.
This gives me plenty to think about.

I agree with "OverKill". Get the Autopilot.
It costs more, but it is worth it. You can point it to a spot across the lake, and it will go there, allowing you to troll and fish. With that remote control feature (I don't have one) you can control it from the back seat (the 15 foot cable also helps).

It has an adjustable speed control, and I have pointed my bow into the wind, and remained in a certain specific location for prolonged periods of time.

I don't have a trolling motor on my bigger boat, but I sure could have used it to catch bait this weekend.

John I have the Navigator 110 (actually 2 55 lb motors) that mounts on the cavitation plate on my outboard. The only drawbacks I have found is that you must have the motor trimmed all the way down for it to work, so if you get in real shallow water less than 2 ft. it is not much help and it cant pull the boat much in reverse other than it is great and will actually push my boat about 2.5 mph. Ive only had it for about a month but so far so good.

bump................

I have a new 210 wellcraft on the way.
The trolling motor has to mount on the back and I think I like the co-pilot thing but how do you mount a trolling motor on the back
of the boat?? Transom mount or do you have to mount a bracket???

If anyone has any advise please let me know.
I have to decide fairly quickly. Brand model number etc is needed.

Thanks,

P.S. OVERKILL you have mail

I HAVE FISHED OUT OF A BOAT LIKE THAT AND IT WAS GOOD, BUT TOOK SOME GETTING USED TO....ROYCE SIMMONS HAD A HUGE BOW ON HIS BOAT AND GUIDES AT RC, BUT THE TROLLING MOTOR SHAFT HE HAS IN VERY LONG, SO THAT SHOULD TELL YOU HOW MUCH YOU NEED ONE.

I HAVE HAD ONE ON BOTH BOATS AND YOU CANNOT DO WITHOUT THEM AT ALL. FOR SURFACING FISH, SOMETIMES THROWING FOR BAIT, MOVING SLIGHTLY ON A DRIFT...IF THERE IS NO WIND AND YOU ARE GENTLY MOVING TO SHOW YOUR LIVE BAIT OFF...YOU HAVE TO HAVE ONE.

I know I'm going to get a trolling motor thanks to your responses. I also think it has to be mounted on the back.

I'd like to talk to someone who has a trolling motor mounted in the back.

I want to find out the brand, #'s and options.

Thanks

Don't be too quick to put the trolling motor on the back. A big boat like the Wellcraft can act like a sail in the wind. This is the reason most trolling motors are mounted in the front. I learned this lesson the hard way with my last boat which had a transom mounted motor. I recently upgraded to a 21' center console. I ran it about a year without a trolling motor. Finally, I was able to figure out how to wire and mount a motor at the bow. Yesterday, I tried the new trolling motor, a Minnkota Riptide 65 w' autopilot, for the first time. I was pleased with the performance! The next step is the wireless co-pilot. It is worth going to the trouble of finding a way to mount the motor on the bow.

I've heard those trolling motors that are mounted on the back, specifically to the lower units, have no reverse.
