I do not like the gear ratio of the TC series. That 6.3 to 1 just gets old.

The 6500's and the 6000's are both 5.3 to 1.

Are you sure they do not say "Engineered in Sweden" or "Designed in Sweden" because all of the BCX and the Kalex are made in China.

Some of this has been said but Abu reels are numbered like this:

5500C3 or 6600C4 or 5601C4 or 4600C3

1st number is spool size
2nd number is gear ratio. 5 is 5.3 and 6 is 6.3 to 1.
3rd is always a 0 (as far as I know)
4th is either 0 or 1. 0 is right hand and 1 is left hand.
C means it has ball bearings.
The last 3 or 4 is how many ball bearings. The C4 reels' extra bearing is in the right side of the levelwind worm gear. They used to make or may still make a C5 that had bearings on both sides of the worm gear.
Also, the C4 reels all have thumbbars and the C3 reels have push buttons on the right side of the reel to cast, except for the 4600C3 which has a thumbbar.

They do still make a reel that doesn't even have an anti-reverse (roller) bearing, and only 1 ball bearing.

The Record series come with 6 bearings. 2 roller bearings (the other one is in the spool), and 2 in the outer side plates, and 1 on the right side of the spool (bushing on the left), and 1 in the idler gear in the left side plate.

Hope this helps anyone confused about the different Abu reels, this is by no means all the reels they make (just the ones I know about for sure).

And yes, the BCX reels are junk and should be discontinued!

I have several 6000's that are getting pretty old and have had less issues with them than any of my other reels.
