I was wondering if anyone has fished this river and if so is there any where to fish it from shore with good results. Im looking to head out this Sat. 06/26. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steigy

Under the I 35 bridge in San Marcos is a pretty good spot. A little upstream is Rio Vista Park. If it's not filled to the brim w/ tubers it is worth a shot. There is a little creek that comes off the main river upstream from Rio Vista, and whoa...even if there are tubers I always do really well there. If you're talkin about further downstream Palmetto State Park isn't bad.
Good luck.

Cool thank you for the info we are going to try Palmetto state park first. Is there any areas down there that are better than others? Also do you have to deal with tubers down there too?

Try River Bend Park in Luling or the up-river side of Palmetto. There are some deeper areas up river. They had a dam fail just up river so I'm not sure what that may do to water levels. Shouldn't have to worry about tubers that far down river and they are even recommending no small craft because of that dam failure so you may not even see many canoes or kayaks.

About a mile by water. The Zedler Mill dam is at the bridge as you leave Luling on Highway 80 south.

Water level is up just a small amount. I can't find any info on a dam failure.

I saw info on a failed dam but it was the one in they call ottine but that was over a yr or 2 ago that it failed. They still have the warning on there saying kayaks and tubes are not recommended.

Also i have never bass fished in a river before what works well in this kind of enviroment? Any help is appreciated.

I haven't fished for bass in the San Marcos in a long time. We used to catch them on yellow crappie jigs, roadrunners, etc. Whatever you catch is most likely to be spotted bass and maybe a Guadalupe or two. The secret is to downsize.
Ottine Dam is alive and well, and is a killer if you don't portage around it.

It's not a "working dam", but it is still there and is extremly dangerious. There are serious hydraulics at the base and several people have died. The police chief of Gonzales died there in 1997.

What about using a zoom fluke or c rigging a 6 inch worm you think. That would work good

Ya gotta remember, this is a fast moving stream. It's more like a trout stream in Canada. It's not noted for being a bass fishery. Catfish? Heck yes! Bass? Not the best choice. But who knows, you may find a few.
