This is a real "To each his own" question.
They are both great units, you will not be dissapointed with either. But your more likely to be dissapointed in lowrances customer service. I can't speak for the higher end units but I've had both LEI and humminbird products and had problems with both, humminbirds customer service was friendly and fast, lowrances was not.

It sounds to me that both these unit fail constantly?
I have an old bird and had to have it repared 3 times. My expense. I swore my next unit would be lowrance. Now, I don't know. Lots a bucks for unreliable elctronics.

I have the Hummingbird and love it. I had several Lowarance products in the past few years, but they have become too difficlut to operate. Customer service with the 'Bird products is great.

Good find Dan. Somthing else no one has mentioned. The instalation of the LSS-1 moudule is a fixed mounting in the boat. HDS INSTAL The birds all you have to due is remove the control head and put it in the truck. I will not trailer with my electonics on the boat. Why do I want to leave the structure scan to get damaged or stolen!
One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!
