I am trying to get this plug for my Mercury 5 hp motor but having conflicting information.
One parts guy trotted out a BPR 7HS plug. When I asked about the missing "10" in the number he said ....."It don't matter, just the first letters count."
I then asked him what the 10 was on there for and he said...."I dunno." I left.
Next parts place looked up the number and gave me a Champion .....RL 82YC that he "thought" would work. I told him I might be back.
Went to another place and they did not have the NGK but had a champion. The number they gave me was QL 78YC The guy said..."it should work." I left.
Can anybody give me a cross reference on the NGK BPR 7HS 10 Spark plug?
Thanks, Chuckwagon

The "10" is the Gap of the plug My Mercury manual calls for a spark plug gap of .040 How does this "10" fit into the scheme of things?

go to www.iboats.com and ask on the mercury outboard forum what your plug number should be and the gap. the guys on the forums are very knowledge.
Put the plug in.

b series gap p projected tip r resistor
7hs i believe is heat range and thread size
10 i'm thinking id's iridium electrodes.
the projected tip puts the spark it the fuel mix for better performance

the - 10 means it is wide gap (40-45) without the 10 it is standard gap (25-35)
BPR 7HS 10 B=size, P=projected tip, R=resistor, 7=heat range,h=plug reach (threads) S= superwide heat range, 10 = electrode gap.
All this is on the "net " "
hope this helps
