I have a guide booked for saturday for stripers. Taking my dad, father in law and grandfather in law for fathers day. Seen a couple people talk about tipping the guides. Is this expected? And how much do you usually tip?

I always tip. May seem like an easy job but those dudes work thier buts off. Espicially coming off the lake near 100 degree temps and cleaning fish.
Just my .02 cents...

If the guide works hard for you and trys to put you on fish than I always leave a tip and encourage others I am fishing with to leave one. I have tipped anywhere from $20.00 to $100.00

Go with Matt...rumor has it that he just loves to clean fish thats the part of the job they don't tell ya about in guide school Really I don't mind it all that much. And I don't ever expect a tip. I've had some great ones and I really appreciated them, but I'm just happy to be working. The best tip I get is when somebody books me a second time or tells their friends about my guide service.

Hey Matt..
You took my dad and grandpa out today. They got more than enough fish, despite the rain, to want to go again. Plus I was chatting with some guys at work at the numbers they caught, so they are thinking about getting a trip together on a holiday...
Probably be booking again in the fall. I hope to make it next time. Thanks for giving some memories to them!
Dan

I marvel at how hard these guys work, if they are bait guys they get up before the sun to throw a cast net or travel to buy fresh bait. If they are artifical bait they are constantly changing lures and monitoring the results. If you haven't spent a day on a trolling motor trying to stay on fish you can't understand how much work it is. There are very few rich guides, they do it because they like the abuse, and they get to clean fish as a bonus.
Hell yes you should tip them, you tip a waitress because she remembers to fill a water glass.

no need to tip unless you feel you really feel like it. They are already charging you for full service

Always tip if it was good service, I think that is pretty standard. Mine is from $20-30 most of the time.
