If you wanna catch gar go behind haggar building at Luna and Royal Caught 4 today. Used live perch dead ones will work also.

Thanks! I think we'll try that place as well. How did you have your line rigged?

New, on the board.. Live in Valley Ranch area. Anyone know which las colinas/valley ranch canals are OFF LIMITS? There are TONS of canals and some have signs some don't. We've been going to Andrew Brown in Coppell, catching mostly sunfish and small cats. Would like to go somewhere at least walking distance... we're on the north side of 635 on macarthur

20lb braid w a slip bobber. Kept bait near top of the water. Let them take it and run, set then hang on!

Just last night a little past 3am in las colinas I caught a 5 and a half # cat. I love that little bus station spot over there. I would post some pics but don't really know how to on here.

Which side did you catch that big cat? Behind Haggar's? What was used for bait?

Thanks SirJet

Our neighbor caught a 10+ lb cat in a canal off of MacArthur north of 635, it was actually a canal behind our apt complex that we have access to...... He used 10lb line with bread.

so now i won't be needing info on the canals. We'll just be going to the one our apts sit on. its a 9 mile canal...

Daclova - That is a great catch! Congrats! Do you mean the canals north of 635 on Mac Arthur about 3/4 -1 mile north? Waterside Dr/Ranch? I didn't see any within a 1/4 mile of 635 and MacA, but I may have missed it.

There are many canals on Macarthur, as you go north of 635. When you're crossing those mini bridges, you're going over them... The last canal that I see from Macarthur is near Cowboys Dr, I googled it and the canals go up as far as 2 miles from 635. Click the link below. And we are up near valley ranch dr.

Google Maps of Valley Ranch Canals

And thanks about the catch. That's actually our neighbors catch. But i was shocked to see that size fish in the small canals behind our apartment complex. I wouldn't eat it though, water here is very murky.

I'm not sure if this is off-topic or not, as I don't know if this is Irving, Coppell, or maybe even Farmers Branch. It's in the Bush/Luna/Beltline area .... and I was fishing in a kayak. But, I was in casting distance from the bank/parking lot, so I think it's relevant to other Irving bank bombers like myself.

I caught this back on 5-15-10. It was a hair under 9 pounds. I caught it on a live 6" bluegill under a bobber.

I have caught a few decent fish in this pond. Not a ton, but a few. This was my first big boy.

I have Also caught keeper-size Largemouth, Sac-a-Lait (Crappie), and gar there also.

This is the first fish that I have taken out of the pond. It was very good eating, but I have to say I am very reluctant to eat anything from a pond connected to the Trinity. This pond is probably and overflow for the Trinity, but I don't see where it is actually connected to it.

What is everyone's thoughts on eating Trinity River fish?

you are talking the elm fork, and all that water that connects to ponds or pits in this area comes from Lakes Lewisville and Grapevine. You should be ok.

I caught him right off of Macauthur Blvd. Just north of The Cowboys practice facility. I have caught several 5 plus cats and Bass.

By the way. I did snack on him. Proper cleaning and soaking in salt water works wonders.
